"The story goes..."

I personally am glad that none of us are in charge of the franchise. We would panic and jump ship the moment something doesn't go right.

I love SW, but no, it shouldn't be number one all the time, every time. It isn't going to break every record and it's not going to be a never ending source of cash. Disney could stop making SW products right now and still be profiting from the name.

Again, I hope to fail as hard as them.

Just looking at these stats, I'd say Iger should just resign now, because he is responsible for turning a cash cow into an also-ran.

I'm going to go out on a ledge here: since neither the Disney board nor shareholders have asked for either Iger or Kennedy's resignation, things are no where near as dire as you and others are desperate and to paint them.

So lets take this scenario. You win the CEO lottery and take over Apple. Within 5 years, instead of competing for the title of biggest company in the whole world, you are now competing with dell for best selling laptop. Sure, you are still doing ok, but you also started from the top, and ended up in the middle. Would you REALLY be satisfied with yourself?

That's the mystery, isn't it? Clearly an epic fail has occurred, and there doesn't seem to be a price to pay! Apathy? Corruption?

But this doesn't tell Iger's story, at all. He's been Disney CEO since 2005. There is more to his resume than Star Wars.

That they aren't doing as badly as you are desperate to paint it?

He was named President and COO of Disney in 2000, and later succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005, after a successful effort by Roy E. Disney to shake up the management of the company. As part of his yearly compensation, Iger earned $44.9 million in 2015. During Iger's tenure, Disney broadened the company's roster of intellectual properties and its presence in international markets; Iger oversaw the acquisitions of Pixar in 2006 for $7.4 billion, Marvel Entertainment in 2009 for $4 billion, Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4.06 billion, and 21st Century Fox in 2019 for $71.3 billion, as well as the expansion of the company's theme park resorts in East Asia, with the introduction of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Shanghai Disney Resort in 2005 and 2016, respectively.

Iger was a driving force behind the reinvigoration of Walt Disney Animation Studios and the branded-release strategy of its film studio's output. Under Iger, Disney has experienced increases in revenue across its various divisions, with the company's market capitalization value increasing from $48.4 billion to $257 billion over a period of thirteen years.

True, Iger is just the overlord sitting upon the miserable (Lucasfilm) and the amazing (Marvel Studios). Seems that we'll have to blame his underlings.

If they are not seen as doing badly, then the problem is that expectations were set too low. Something is still wrong.

Once again, no one is asking or demanding Kennedy's resignation from Disney. So could it be that you are simply wrong?

More likely whoever is in charge is wrong, since it has been demonstrably proven over and over that most people at the executive level are completely incompetent.

It doesn't address anything. Just admit you don't know what the fuck you are talking about and move on. YouTube is a bad place to get your facts on how something is doing.
All my facts came from a post actually trying to defend the performance of the flop called Rise Of Skywalker. I also cross reference BoxOfficeMojo.

You mean one of only fifteen movies to cross the $500 million dollar threshold in the US (and a billion dollars worldwide)? It surprises me how easily it is for some folks to ignore what doesn't fit their narrative.

How many other movies have you ever cared about how they were doing relative to other movies in their fifth-plus week of release? I bet you can probably count them on one finger. And you likely didn't care about it until you saw an article about a movie you didn't like.

77th highest grossing movie of all time domestically, in front of only episode 2 and Solo. Those are the FACTS. You can't twist the fact that this movie ended up doing worse than Episode 3, which was the last trilogy ending movie, and was saddled with the baggage of TPM and TCW.

Also I didn't hate the movie at all. I'd be happy if it did as well as it should have, but it didn't, and now the franchise I love is on hiatus, but "everything is fine".

Satisfied with myself is not the question. I am never satisfied with myself.

Of course Disney wants to profit more. But, we armchair quarterbacking CEOs don't have all the facts. There is a not of knee jerk reactionism that assumes much with little evidence beyond base numbers. Which, surprise, surprise, Disney and LFL have more information at their disposal than we do.

So, instead of Chicken Littleing all across the Interwebz let us just accept that it isn't the colossal failure we wish it to be and accept that Disney is OK with where they are at, even if they wish to do better.

On 'hiatus?" Poor Mandalorian...

12th fastest movie in domestic box office to hit $500 million...

The franchise you love isn't on hiatus, they are planning a movie in 2022 or 23, have just finished the first season of The Mandolorian, the seventh season of The Clone Wars is coming soon, there is a Ben Kenobi series on the horizon, talk of remaking Knights of the Old Republic.

So I don't see how everything isn't fine?
