No kidding. I want to fail has hard as it has. In fact, I think I'll start a KS titled "My Failure Fund" so that when I fail I will have millions of dollars to fall back upon.
And, for the record, no I don't think "because SW" means they have a license to print money. They have to compete in the market place like anyone else. If (big IF!) Disney and LFL are dissatisfied with that amount of money then they can make the changes, not me.
SW could make 1 cent (and by Hollywood accounting ROTJ is still not profitable) and I would still watch it.

That is the very first paragraph of the story. The reason they didn't craft the headline out of that piece of information? Because it wouldn't drive clicks. I've never seen anyone give a fuck about how the fifth week of release is doing, until now.
As stated, there's an unhealthy amount of finding rationale to call the sequel trilogy a failure. I won't deny the fact that I wanted the movie to be better for me. I won't deny the fact that I wish it would have been done better financially. But calling out failings here is a little silly. It has made $1,058,744,116 at the box office and currently sits at #8 of all of 2019 behind some heavy hitters. It is the third highest grossing Star Wars film of all times behind TFA and TLJ and just having edged out Rogue One. Not every film can be number one. Either for quality or gross. And sure, you can say, "It's all perspective!" And if that's your argument, good for you. But, as @fireproof78 suggests, if that's a failure, then that's the kind of failure I want to be.
this was not just the end of a trilogy but they marketed it as the end of a nine film saga. Oh and it made less than the prior two films in the saga. It would be like Edngame making less than the first Avengers. Plus with reshoots and different cuts and Hollywood accounting, it maybe broke even but not by much
Why are you twisting yourself into a pretzel to defend the monumental collapse of the sequel trilogy? We can start with the fact that episode 9 is tied with the truly awful TPM for worst reviewed Star Wars movie ever. That's bad. A mainline Star Wars movie is the 8th highest grossing of the year? That's an unmitigated disaster! And that movie is the end of the saga, with direct connections to the OT? OMG!!! If I was the head of Disney I would be completely shitting bricks about how this franchise dived straight from the roof of a skyscraper right on it's head so quickly! Third highest grossing Star Wars movie of all time behind... both of it's direct predecessors. In other words LOWEST GROSSING MOVIE OF THE ENTIRE ST. "Edged out Rogue One"?? Rogue one was an afterthought of a movie squeezed in between two real Star Wars movies... and the finale of it all barely "edged it out"? Nightmare. Not every film can be number one, but this is Star Wars. All of them should be number one. Otherwise it's a flop.
That accounting is done for tax purposes. The movie did fine financially, but is a total disaster when compared to reasonable expectations.
Which means they are hiding profits much like Return of the Jedi.
And to keep from paying people who have bonuses tied to net profits.

I blame Iger for GE's flop. I mean I heard that originally it was going to celebrate the whole franchise, but the story goes that once he saw the dailies for TFA he said "this is great! We have SW.. let's make it all about OUR SW"
