I think both she and Kylo are Anakin's grandchildren by different parents, with Rey being Luke's daughter that he placed into hiding to keep her safe from harm at the hands of her cousin Ben.

If Ben Solo was as consumed by the Dark Side as the film leads us to believe and he could murder his own father then I have few doubts he'd have hurt or killed Rey if she is indeed Luke's daughter and he could have found a way to get to her. As somebody Luke loves she would have been an easy target.

One clever, if odd, suggestion was that she is both a Skywalker and a Kenobi. It is a little far out there, and it would require an explanation as to where not only her mother came from but also who her grandmother was. Her father would have to be Luke is this instance. But it would make for a potentially extremely powerful Jedi being the granddaughter of both Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, Heroes of the Galactic Republic.

Do we even know if they (Disney) know? Or if it is fixed at this point?
I'm pretty sure they have a least a basic idea of where the current trilogy is going to go story wise, so they probably have a backstory worked out for Rey.

I don't know if this is a sincere belief about what you think should or will happen during the next two Episodes, but if so I wholeheartedly disagree. If it's just a joke or trolling, I disagree even more.

:p

Not really a joke. I sincerely believe that the original trilogy characters(Han(Already gone) Luke and Leia) will all be dead by the 3rd film. They obviously are going to make this larger than a trilogy since the movies are being shot closer together(1.5 years). The only original characters I see making it past the 3rd movie are Chewie, Artoo and C-3po. Disney is hoping the new character will be as popular as out original trio and that we wont need them anymore after the 3rd movie. I think they will continue to make them but they will start losing popularity after Disney over milks the franchise. Lets admit it the reason that this new movie was so popular was because Han and Chewie had a fairly large role in it. The next movie will be just as popular because Luke will be in it. I really doubt this movie would have been so popular it just starred the Rey and Finn characters.

Starkiller does have to be mobile, simply because of how it powers its weapon. You cannot drain a star to exhaustion if you plan to fire more than once. .

I don't think the starkiller planet was moving to other star systems. They could fire it through hyperspace or something like that.

If it does move star systems, then forget about shooting, just drain the star and watch the planets die on their own.

Anyways, I am glad they got this out of their system and no more round super weapons please.

Another thing which is a bit strange.

They have the top general of the first order being a guy who is 32 (the actor is). I find it rather unrealistic that someone that young would be at the very top. I know they want young characters for the long haul. They could have at least had him in the mid ranks somewhere and have him rise ranks throughout the trilogy; maybe assassinate a superior officer here and there, get a promotion from some great battle, etc. It would have been a good character arc for the guy; not just the angry pissed off General.

But then again, Star Wars loves to make guys a general very easily. Han was an aloof smuggler and is given a general position right off the bat.

re: Hux being young

All of the First Order people were young. That was intentional. They're supposed to a child army like drug lords run in Africa. Snoke is grabbing these people young and completely brainwashing them into extremism. Just like the Jedi did.

Fair point, I hadn't considered that. I didn't look around at all the officers in his bridge so if they are all in their 20s and 30s then you must be right.

There are a few who look to be in their later 30s and 40s and maybe one or two older. The officers who realize everything is going to shit and even Hux has abandoned them were clearly older than him. It is safe to say though that Snoke would likely prefer to have a "true believer" in charge, rather than someone old enough to have experienced the Rebellion and their victory over the Empire.

I like the attempt at explaining it in-universe but personally I'm convinced it's just Hollywood's tendency to now cast only 20-somethings in every bloody role. A tendency that I find pretty damn irritating. You always get a whole bunch of people in their twenties and then maybe one older guy as a father figure.
When in reality the people in those positions would be all over the place age-wise and probably tending to be 40+.

This. I like General Hux, but the first time I saw Domnhall Gleeson in a convention appearance to promote the movie I thought to myself: "HE'S supposed to be playing a high-ranking officer? He looks like a college kid!"

So... Has anyone given much thought to how there seems to be a higher ratio of female officers and troopers in the First Order, in comparison to the Empire as depicted in the OT (i.e., none)?

I know, right?
Like I said it really irritates me and I AM a twenty-something.

I think several people have commented on the fact that both the First Order and the Resistance seem to have much more diverse personnel. It seems the producers really tried to ensure that there's diversity in all roles which is something I appreciated.
It's not just "one black guy" or "one woman" in a major role but even the background characters aren't by default white dudebros.
