This. I like General Hux, but the first time I saw Domnhall Gleeson in a convention appearance to promote the movie I thought to myself: "HE'S supposed to be playing a high-ranking officer? He looks like a college kid!"

Star Wars isn't the place for old people over 40 anymore. You have to be younger than 40. Think of the Star Wars universe as a place like Apple or Facebook. Once you hit the dread age of 40 plus your days are numbered. One day Rey will be near 40 and her days will be numbered in the SW universe. Shes got a good 10-20 years and it goodbye. Its just the way it is now.

Yeah, it was nice to see so much more diversity in both the good guys and bad guys.
EDIT:
Tyson Murphy, the lead character artist for Blizzard Entertainment, has drawn a comic showing Ben's fall to Dark Side from Chewie's perspective. It's actually pretty sad.

That's not how it happened in the movie. Chewie just shot him. Also they never showed Chewie showing a young Kylo a dangerous bow caster. Also they look like they are staying on Deep Space Nine. What gives? Were these deleted scenes?

A nice behinds the scene of the SFX for TFA

About the only thing you don't knowingly see are non-humans in the First Order's ranks.

(video is private)

Which would echo the visual cues we got from the Galactic Empire, whose ranks seemed to be composed of humans from the top down if you don't count the handful of old EU characters who rose through the Imperial ranks despite being from non-human worlds and species.

Looks like the video is gone. I was able to see much of it before it was taken off. I guess it showed way to much of the movie. It was interesting though.

I'm assuming this is sarcasm? It's just a goofy little fan comic, it's not meant to be taken so seriously.

Well I just learned something interesting. Adam Driver grew up in my hometown, and graduated from the same high school. So anyone who wants to bash Kylo will have to deal with the Mishawaka Cavemen!

Debbie Reynolds used to have a home in my local area and my Dad got to meet her. Technically, she's Princess Leia's mother. :)

And Princess, er, General Leia's 'daughter' - Billie Lourd - had some lines in TFA.

True. And she got to stand next to her mother when the characters gathered together at the end of the film and waved goodbye to the Falcon.

I love that gif of Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley filming their duel. The actual glowing lightsaber props really added to the lighting in the scene. They didn't do a great job of showing the lightsabers giving off light in the prequels.

That's quite the props. I wonder what they are made out of?

The ones in the prequels were first aluminum rods, that deformed rather quickly. Most had to be replaced after one take. They used them through AotC but replaced them in ROTS with carbon fiber blades, which are much more durable but could cause injury. The PT props did not glow, so the glowing ones are a newer design for the sequels. So, their material would be interesting.

I really enjoyed the choreography in TFA.

Modern stunt sabers that light up and have sound effects can be used for heavy dueling and choreography. Polycarbonate tubes like those used by companies like Ultrasabers or Saberforge. Just really bright flashlights with three foot long polycarbonate tubes on them making a lightsaber looking prop. Lucasfilm must have access to that or better by now. While I don't think they'd would bother with sound or any effects they didn't plan to put in later in post, the lighting would be there for sure. They could use the sound effects boards if they already have them in place...if only to keep the actors from doing it themselves like Ewan McGreggor says they did at first.

If I'm swinging, even a sword, the lightsaber sounds come naturally.

No amount of effects, I think, is going to change that ;)

I know there are several different materials available for blades, and I'm sure Lucasfilm has better access than the independent business. This was just the first time I had seen them use a light up prop.
