I liked it but disappointed it mirrored #4 in story structure so closely, also that it took beloved characters that were given a great sendoff in #6 and told me for the rest of the time I shall watch it that they will all be miserable the rest of their fictional lives and they accomplished nothing, much like the destruction of Vulcan and the killing of spock's mother and the rewriting of 50 years of trek lore did in his Trek Reboot, JJ could have just continued with the new characters , that are good instead of tarnishing the original ones.

Seemed like Han, Luke, and Leia did alright for a decade or so. It wasn't until Ben turned to the Dark Side that things fell apart for them. The Rebels won the war. The Empire was defeated. The Republic was restored. Three decades pass, and the hardliners on the First Order have been rebuilding quietly and strike back at the Republic they hate so much for messing with their nice orderly society.

How much damage the First Order has done is not clear. They blew up the current Republic capital and four other planets in the same system as well as the main Republic fleet. The Resistance took out the superweapon but now have only a half dozen to dozen Starfighters left at their base. Six X-wings are not going to be enough against one Star Destroyer much less a fleet of them. So hopefully someone in the writing staff was smart enough to point out that the Republic has to have more than just what we saw, just like we would guess the First Order has more than what we saw. The First Order is suppose to be a relatively small rump state compared to the Republic and supposedly the remains of the Empire that still hold to the treaty.

Luke did set out to rebuild the Jedi order, but had a major setback. Han and Leia seem to have gotten married at some point, than separated over the lose of their son to the Dark Side. Each dealing with it in their own way. The EU did this too. Han and Leia going their separate ways over first the loss of Chewbacca and then over their son. They make up later to keep up the fight, but here, that is no longer an option. Luke had student turn on him in the EU. Some even tried to destroy all the rest. But because the EU was still going to be the story of the Heroes of Yavin, Luke, Han, and Leia needed to continue on. The EU did try to move on with the Solo and Skywalker children, but the Heroes of Yavin were still the main point in most cases. Now, with this film, it is no longer their story. The children are the heroes and villains. While the old Heroes of Yavin still have their place in the story, it isn't their story anymore.

Yeah that why I thin that anyone over the age of 58(Leia) will be offed by the 3rd movie so a fourth trilogy can be formed with just the young cast. There really isn't a place for old people in the Star Wars universe.;)

Saying what happened in RotJ didn't matter (seemingly bought ~30 years of peace) is like saying what happened when the Empire rose didn't matter because eventually it fell.

They just don't give us any idea of the peace and prosperity that flourished over the past thirty years before TFA.

Do we actually see any spaceships blowing up when the energy hits the Hosnian planets?

I don't recall any. Only saw it once though. Presumably a ships explosion should be too small to see on that scale anyway.

Are we certain all the planets were the Hosnian system? Not being snide but since we can see them across the universe are they all supposed to be the same system? Or was it like Hosnia Prime + 4 other top targets in different systems.

I don't know if this is a sincere belief about what you think should or will happen during the next two Episodes, but if so I wholeheartedly disagree. If it's just a joke or trolling, I disagree even more.

:p

You can see ships exploding in orbit as the planet start to go up. Possibly a bunch of Mon Cal cruisers.

I just found out a fun little tid bit, Constable Zuvio (who I never actually saw) is actually the same species as the recurring bounty hunter character Embo from The Clone Wars. Zuvio is a little bit more human looking, but I looked them both up on Wookiepedia after The Visual Diction mentioned his traditional hat, and I noticed it looked similar to Embo's.

I found out about this a month or so ago and I was glad to hear about it. Zuvio looked so much like Embo that many fans were hoping their species were related, and it turns out they're the same. Great continuity between different chapters of the franchise and I hope they do more of this in the next films of both the Saga and the standalone Anthology.

For what it's worth Constable Zuvio ended up on the cutting room floor and his scene was trimmed from the movie. You wouldn't think that he'd been cut out of the film given that both a 3.75" and a super-articulated 6" figure of the character were released by Hasbro before the movie ever premiered so it gave you the impression he'd have a much bigger appearance or role.

Or any at all!

The Republic isn't at war (at the start of the film) with the First order so clearly there is peace upto that point.

I thought maybe he was just in the background somewhere and I missed him. I was definitely surprised we didn't get a decent amount of screen time with him since he was promoted a fair amount. We got the figures, he has an entry in the Visual Dictionary, and I think he was even in one of the last batches of promo pictures they released just before the movie came out.

And he's also featured in one of the novels that were released prior to the new film. For a background alien with that much retail and literary exposure he sure didn't last long once J.J. sat down to edit the movie.

I picked up a copy of The Art of TFA today. Lots of interesting stuff there, and I'd recommend it to fans of the movie. :D

I have yet to see and read it. I'm sure it's a lot of fun to pick up and look at.
