Star Wars The Clone Wars Season Six

Cancelling The Clone Wars when they did was a big mistake as evidenced by the popularity of the unaired Season 6 episodes that were posted to Netflix and by the interest and excitement generated by these Bad Batch storylines. Hopefully there'll be more material where this came from even if we won't get TCW back as a weekly series.

It was purely a financial decision. Clone Wars was insanely expensive to produce. Lucas did it because he wanted to and didn't care what it cost. Disney is not so frivolous with their Disney Dollars I love Rebels, but it's painfully obvious they're working with a much lower budget.

Time to take a hint from Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir and put the remaining Season 7 scripts out as a comic series, methinks...

As much as I like the series, Rebels is clearly a lower-budget show with a more kid-friendly look that isn't going to attract as many adult viewers. I wish Disney would splurge a little to make the show more lavish, but that's probably not going to happen.

I was thinking it had more to do with it being on Cartoon Network than anything else. Moeny for the competition.

I'm not sure if Rebels is lower budget, or just a different art style.

The first season did feel a bit low key for the most part, the character animations were...not exactly over the top, but they certainly flailed around a lot and the character development was a little too focused on just Ezra and Kanan for what should be an ensemble show.
However, if the season 2 trailer is any measure, it look like they've already gotten back to the level of quality and scope Clone Wars had at it's peak.

They've said in interviews they have a lower animation budget. You can see in the loss of detail and texture; just look at a Wookie or a Star Destroyer in Rebels. You'll also note an absence of vast sweeping scenes starring thousands of moving objects.

Season 2 does look like it might be a massive visual improvement over the first episodes, and whatever the show's budget it does have a couple of things going for it that TCW didn't: huge Star Wars voice actors like James Earl Jones and Frank Oz and being set close to the Original Trilogy timeframe. It may not be as visually-textured or elaborate-looking but it does have some major strengths working in its favor.

I hope they keep up the current pace of improving storytelling and do some truly ambitious things with the show and its characters in Season 2.

It may not be as visually-textured or elaborate-looking but it does have some major strengths working in its favor.

I hope they keep up the current pace of improving storytelling and do some truly ambitious things with the show and its characters in Season 2.

The prospect of an Ahsoka/Vader showdown could potentially be the best thing to happen to the entire SW universe. What an awesome way to build on the story of "The Clone Wars" by making that confrontation happen.

I still haven't seen Season 1, but there's a lot of really cool stories that "Rebels" could tell.

Sidenote: Does Ahsoka know who Vader really is?

As far as we know, she doesn't know what happened to Anakin Skywalker after the Clone Wars or she believes like many others that he died defending the Republic during the "Jedi uprising" at its end. I can't imagine Filoni and the producers would want her to know that Anakin is Darth Vader because that would ruin one of the great on-screen surprises and dramatic moments of the Star Wars universe.

It's best for her to learn through a tremor in the Force right after she sees Vader in person. The facial expression of horror when she finally realizes that this cybernetic Sith Lord in black armor is her former Master and friend would be so memorable.

Sidenote: Does Ahsoka know who Vader really is?

I think there's a fair chance either way. It all depends on how much Kenobi and Yoda told Bail as other than Palpatine (and later on probably Tarkin) they're the only living people that could know.

So if Bail knows, Ahsoka probably knows. If he doesn't...she still may have pieced it together. It's been well established that a bond is forged between mater and apprentice so it's possible she felt it when he turned or at the very least never felt him die and thus knows he's still out there. So on the one hand her old master who is chummy with Palpatine vanishes along with the other Jedi which at the same time Palpatine gets a new cyborg Sith attack dog with a very familiar looking light saber and fighting style.

Either way, I think we can assume that if she doesn't know already then she will the instant they're in each other's presence again. Which is probably the subtext of that line from the trailer.

Small aside, but is it weird that I *really* want to hear James Earl Jones say the word "snips"?

On the one hand, hearing Darth Vader call Ashoka "Snips" would be weird. On the other hand, Lucas has made him say stupider things in the movies, and I think it might actually be so ridiculous it circles around to becoming awesome

Vader: "It has been a long time....Snips."

Cuts a leg off: "Snip."

That alone is better dialogue than anything that's aired on SyFy in years.

We are evil bastards, but it's so much fun.

I dobut she knows. Bail Organa isn't beholden to tell every little tidbit of information to other members of the Rebellion, especially if Yoda and Obi-Wan advised him to keep Anakin's true fate a secret from anybody who could somehow use that knowledge to threaten the lives of the twins.
