Star Wars The Clone Wars Season Six

First they said 100... then towards the end they said 7-8 years... but the Season Six episodes clearly indicate they were heading towards the end so I guess it was scaled back to 6-7.

Sounds like Lucas when he thought the original trilogy was going to be three parts....then six parts....then nine parts....then 12(?)...then....

A 100 episodes is desired for syndication.

Although with Friends in syndication they've added another 2 seasons called "Friends: The Joey Years" since Joey as a stand alone series fell considerably short of 100 episodes.

TOS was very lucky that syndicators in 1970 took a chance on carrying reruns of the then-recently cancelled series. With just 79 episodes to cycle over and over again for who knows how long ("The Cage" wouldn't even be edited and available for adding to syndicated or even cable episode packages for a couple more decades) they took a bit of a gamble on having enough content, but it was close enough to 100 and the original Trek's demographic numbers at the time of NBC's cancellation were strong and impressive enough that they knew they'd get a strong and loyal audience if they targeted and marketed the show just right.

Even "The Prisoner," with its 17 episodes, gets recurring play on current channels.

This is true.

Sometimes a short-lived show's cult status is so powerful and the fans are so rabid that channels can't help but carry that handful of existing episodes as part of its lineup because of guaranteed eyeballs on the screen.

Had this been mentioned already in the Rebels thread? More Clone Wars unfinished episodes.

http://www.starwars.com/news/star-w...4-episode-arc-coming-to-star-wars-celebration

In a special March 2014 StarWars.com blog post celebrating the Netflix release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Lost Missions, series supervising director Dave Filoni thanked fans for their continued support, and shared his own sketches and concept art. He ended his post with one teaser image and note, addressing one of the show’s unanswered questions: “Yes, Echo is alive.” Finally, fans of the clone trooper will find out how and why.

StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that a previously unreleased four-episode story reel, “Bad Batch,” telling the story of how Captain Rex and company rescued Echo, will screen exclusively at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim. The unfinished episodes (similar to the Utapau arc that appeared on StarWars.com) feature complete, final voice performances, specifically by Dee Bradley Baker, who voices the elite clones of “Bad Batch” group.

The screening will take place at the Digital Stage on Friday, April 17, at noon. A Q&A with Filoni, Baker, and writers Brent Friedman and Matt Michnovetz will follow. So mark your calendars, and prepare to welcome back one of the clone army’s greatest warriors!

Most likely it'll be released on StarWars.com. It seems to be implied by Dave Filoni that's there's more episodes that reached the rough animation stage.

Eric Goldman→At Star Wars Celebration today, Dave Filoni introduced a premiere screening for a never finished or released story arc from Star Wars: The Clone Wars – “Bad Batch.” All four episodes of the storyline were shown, though in their incomplete form – final animation was never completed, so this was all the earliest, animatic-style animation without any detailed backgrounds, moving lips and many other elements we'd have seen if it had been completed, though the vocals had all been recorded by the cast.

The storyline is another big one for Dee Bradley Baker, the voice of all the clone troopers, as we meet the Bad Batch of the title, a foursome -- Hunter, Tech, Crosshair and Wrecker -- of Clones who came out somehow malformed (like the Clone “99” we met once before), but were then mutated further into a squad of super soldier types, sent on especially dangerous missions. These guys are all highly individualized (including their appearance, as they do not share the same exact face) in both their skill set and armor, with an almost G.I Joe type feel to them. There’s also a hint of a Republic Commando type crew here as well.

It’s also no secret (don’t yell about spoilers – Filoni himself revealed this nearly a year ago!) that this would be the storyline to explain what happened to Echo, the Clone Trooper who Filoni explained was not dead, as previously believed. I won’t say exactly what happened to Echo or how he is found, but it’s a pretty intriguing plot point, and like much of Clone Wars, has a disturbing component to it.

Even in the rough animation form we saw it in, “Bad Batch” was a lot of fun, with some great action beats that had the audience cheering. There are some bat-like creatures that come into play that are really well used, including in a standout action scene that begins on a small bridge. Also, Mace Windu, while not a huge character in this arc, has an incredibly entertaining speech at one point that is one of the character’s best moments. Suffice to say, the episodes were very well received and it was hard not to wish they could be completed, given how effective they were in this form.

In the Q&A that followed, Filoni couldn’t firmly say whether “Bad Batch” will be put on StarWars.com eventually, as one other unfinished Clone Wars storyline was last year – but he seemed to lean towards it being highly likely it would be, saying, with a grin, “I don’t know. It would be great. I’m sure it will… possibly.”

Asked why they don’t release all the unfinished episodes, he said many factors were at play, with some episodes being further along than others to the point where he felt comfortable showing them. He noted that he really didn’t want to release any episodes where the final vocals hadn’t at least been recorded, since he felt the voice cast added so much to the experience.

Baker was present for the Q&A and said, “I remember how terrified I was going into this!,” when asked his reaction to the Bad Batch storyline. He said his challenge is usually to make sure the different clones sound at least somewhat distinct, but here he had to remember that while he could go into broader places with the Bad Batch’s voices, they still had to sound at least somewhere at the core as though they were clones and it was a challenge to retain that.

Writer Brent Friedman, who wrote the Bad Batch arc, recalled, “George [Lucas] had a very specific vision of this motley crew, “ and that, “As we were breaking the stories, Dave was sketching the characters. I already saw their personalities and could hear their voices.”

Another Clone Wars writer, Matt Michnovetz, wrote a second arc for the Bad Batch character that was in the works for the series when the show was cancelled, also featuring Yoda and Wookiees, Chewbacca included. He said that often while making The Clone Wars, “George would come up with these classic movie references,” and with the Bad Bunch, “He came in and wanted to do a version of the Dirty Dozen with clones.”

Filoni revealed the influence for most of the Bad Bunch characters (with the exception of “Tech”), saying, “Hunter is Billy from Predator. Crosshair is more Clint Eastwood - Cad Bane if he’s a clone.” As for the super strong Wrecker, Filoni joked he “Is about as close to the Hulk as well get,” saying his Marvel-adoring crew, “loved Wrecker, because this is them mini-Avengering.”

Hopefully it gets a dvd release. Unfinished or not I'd still like to own it.

Even if the only format Disney and Lucasfilm would use is Blu ray it would be a nice gesture to the fans of the show to allow them to get Season 6 content outside of Netflix and other premium membership websites.

I know that Disney and Lucasfilm are focused on Rebels and the OT-era stuff now, but I'd really love it if they could some day finish the animation on these incomplete episodes. Unlikely, I know, but it'd be great, and I'm sure people would watch/buy them.

Seriously. I was thinking it would be an awesome project for animation students:
They get the experience.
We get the fully animated episodes.

It's win-win.

The Bad Batch episodes are up:

Can't wait to sink into these. The Utapau arc was spectacular.

It's surprising how watchable these reels are given their unfinished state. It helps of course that all the vocal work, sfx and at least a temp music track is done, which makes it almost like a radio play.

ETA

This is quite interesting. A whole bunch of stuff from the other unfinished arcs including the Ventress/Voss one, a take on The Searchers on Tattooine with Fett and Bane and even a bit with Ahsoka out on her own. The most interesting thing for me was that they planned to not only catch up to RotS, but go alongside and even overtake it. Even into the early days of the Empire and account for where the likes of Ahsoka and Rex were during those events.

I'm watching the Bad Batch episodes now... it's always magic to see a new Clone Wars episode but I just don't care about clone characters. They're just too generic.

So at this point we've seen episodes that would have run up to Season 7 Episode 7! Did they say they were going to stop at 7 or 8?

6X14 CRYSTAL CRISIS 1 (story reel)

15 CRYSTAL CRISIS 2
16 CRYSTAL CRISIS 3
17 CRYSTAL CRISIS 4
18 BAD BATCH 1 (story reel)

19 BAD BATCH 2
20 BAD BATCH 3
21 BAD BATCH 4
22 SON OF DATHOMIR 1 (comic book)

7x1 SON OF DATHOMIR 2
2 SON OF DATHOMIR 3
3 SON OF DATHOMIR 4
4 DARK DISCIPLE 1 (forthcoming novel)

5 DARK DISCIPLE 2
6 DARK DISCIPLE 3
7 DARK DISCIPLE 4

Finally got around to finishing all 4 Bad Batch episodes. I'm not a fan of clone-centric stories but it definitely improved as it went along. The last episode was particularly epic. It's funny how entertaining and completely these rough animatics feel. I would glad watch an entire series of this, just to get my Clone Wars fix!

BTW in an interview with Force Net, Christine Golden revealed that "Dark Disciple" was an EIGHT episode arc and they showed her the completely animatics of the first four episodes.

Which means...

6X14 CRYSTAL CRISIS 1 (story reel)
15 CRYSTAL CRISIS 2
16 CRYSTAL CRISIS 3
17 CRYSTAL CRISIS 4
18 BAD BATCH 1 (story reel)
19 BAD BATCH 2
20 BAD BATCH 3
21 BAD BATCH 4
22 DARK DISCIPLE 1 (forthcoming novel/story reel)

7X1 DARK DISCIPLE 2
2 DARK DISCIPLE 3
3 DARK DISCIPLE 4
4 SON OF DATHOMIR 1 (comic book)
5 SON OF DATHOMIR 2
6 SON OF DATHOMIR 3
7 SON OF DATHOMIR 4
8 DARK DISCIPLE 5 (forthcoming novel)
9 DARK DISCIPLE 6
10 DARK DISCIPLE 7
11 DARK DISCIPLE 8

That takes halfway through Season Seven now! I also heard a mention somewhere of a planned story where Ahsoka teams up with Ventress again and gets some Clone Trooper follows. So that would take us to 7X15. This might be the same story they talked about where Rex and a few others removed their Order 66 chip.
