Star Wars:The Clone Wars S3......so far

You wonder why Dooku can't figure that out for himself. The only way two Sith can ever be relatively safe from the others' machinations is if they have an intensely strong personal bond. Seems like Dooku and Ventress had that bond, which maybe is why she didn't predict his betrayal.

From the book, he thinks he has time because he's so important to the war and he hasn't learned everything he wants to from Palps yet. He also wasn't 100% sure of Ventress due to her annoying tendency to fail, the same seemingly true for this episode. Given that Dooku was able to deal with her and the nightsisters while half-asleep and blind, they would not have stood a chance against Sidious.

Maybe where this story is going is to establish that Sidious is looking for a young, strong replacement for Dooku, someone with a lot of growth potential. He's set his sights on Ventress, but no doubt she's going to end up dead, maybe not this season but by the series' end. And then he'll need to look around for another young Jedi who fits the same characteristics...

More likely she's a back up for Anakin, if he were to say take a lava bath or something :p AotC and TCW have both previously established Palps is trying to win Anakin over. If anything I'd think he's going to keep throwing them all at each other until only one is left standing.

Speaking of Dathomir, I wonder if they'll touch on Yoda's previous visit a couple centuries back.

Maybe - if they even know about it. Which they probably don't.

Yoda will probably studiously avoid commenting on the subject for some reason.:alienblush:

It could be said that the conversation between Sidious and Dooku as she flies away in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars conveys the same idea.

I didn't care for the battle, because I couldn't help noticing how the assassins were rather blatantly waiting their turn to attack Dooku one at a time instead of attacking him all at once. If two or more of them had ever swung their lightsabers at him simultaneously from different directions, he couldn't have escaped death. Sure, I know that cinematic swordfights are always unrealistic like that to drag them out; real swordfights typically last more like one blow. But it just seemed particularly blatant here.
That's because I figure even among the evil there is a Knights code of chivalry in sword fighting. Wasn't that part of the reference Obi-Wan made when refers to the past as a more "civilized" time and how Jedi veiw blasters as "uncivilized"? So you sword fight in a "civil" manner.

^^I'm just getting around to watching this tonight, and the old woman-didn't catch her name, one of the sisters questioned why they were given light sabers...She told them that she wanted Dooku to think he was being attacked by Jedi. So, fighting in the manner of a Jedi seems reasonable. She clearly didn't want him dead as she could have given them something truly poisonous to inject him with, rather than the "dull his senses drug" in that little dart-thingy.

^No, I think the intent of the drug was to slow Dooku enough that non-Jedi would have a fair chance of killing him in a lightsaber duel. Probably a matter of honor, since this was about Ventress's revenge -- it has to be a blow she strikes herself, even if she gets help in doing so. Or something like that.

And "the old woman" is Mother Talzin -- and get this, she's played by Barbara Goodson, an actress probably best known as the voice of Rita Repulsa in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and Power Rangers Zeo.

Well, I'd agree it's not an odd choice, but simply because Barbara Goodson is an accomplished voice artist with a wide vocal range. She actually has a lovely, mellifluous alto when she isn't playing a screeching evil witch.

Yes, exactly.
They had said in the ep. that they drugged him so he couldn't sense that they weren't Jedi nor could he be able to sense it was Ventress. It sure didn't weaken his fighting skills because he still whooped their butts.

My little sister asked me to watch this show the other day, but Plinkett's voice kept commenting on everything that was in the show. 'Lightsaber! Lightsaber! Can't go too long without flashing out the Lightsaber! Lightsaber! Lightsaber!'

It's not the best Star Wars show, that falls to the originals. But at least it's better than the holiday special

I thought it was very good. Enjoying the training stuff and the ruthlessness of Ventress. Interesting that Savage is portrayed as noble before his transformation. Loved the design of Dathomir and Dooku wanting to overthrow Palpatine is interesting. I also noticed that the Dathomir mother's voice would "echo" omniously every time she spoke. And hey, the Seperatists actually won a battle!

My one problem is that everything felt rushed. I wish they were giving this storyline another week.

I liked it, however I was very disappointed Savage was brainwashed into being darksided. He's a better character than Maul ever was, but still. Also felt the pacing was off. Apart from those issues I liked pretty much everything, particularly what they've done with hand to hand combat.

I'm getting a bit of a fanfic vibe (even some ho yay :)) from this arc but it's not necessarily unwelcome. Those were some chump Jedi though that got whupped by Mary Sue Maul.

I was disappointed with Savage. Ugh, what a dumb name. First off, the yellow skin looks a little silly, I really wish they'd made him red like Maul. Second, I don't care for this "he was a skinny weeny who loved his brother" origin story. Third, at the end when Dooku sends him on a mission I thought this was setting up the epic third episode but instead it was literally "Savage runs down a bridge and kills two hilariously inept Jedi, including one who drops his lightsaber then proceeds to fight the Dark Side Assassin by hand without trying to retrieve it". Wow.

It's still better than the first half of this season though! :p

Geek moment though; they confirmed that Dooku's planet is Serrano just like in the novel Dark Rendezvous! Woo!

One thing I didn't understand is why Dooku bothered to make that first visit. Seriously, couldn't the Nightsister Mother just tell him what he needed to know over the holocommunication thing?

And what bugs me is, if the ultimate goal of this plan is to take revenge on Dooku, why go to all this trouble? He was sitting right there!! If they were afraid of his mad Jedi skillz, they could've poisoned his tea or something.

Still, it was pretty effective showing how much he cared for his brother and then how easily he killed his brother after his hate was harnessed and amplified. Now, there's a moral event horizon for you. If he was able to do that so easily, it pretty much rules out any chance that he'll develop any moral qualms about any subsequent actions.

And it's an interesting departure from format to do a story that essentially has no heroes in it, only villains.

If it has a bit of fan fic feel to it well Katie Lucas did reference several influences in the article I posted and no doubt she's a huge Star Wars fan herself. I missed the episode. Hopefully will be able to catch it when it's put up on the main site.

Really liked last night's episode, and loved the first ep in the trilogy. The second show wasn't without flaws, but I was so happy they finally had Dooku expressing a desire to supplant Sidious. Up to this point, I felt that Dooku was portrayed as something of a dupe, a placeholder until Vader. But this episode, in addition to the entire Clone Wars series to be fair, elevate him to worthy Sith Lord status.

However, I thought his declaration was a bit rushed. I mean, why express this to Savage after only one mission, albeit wildly successful? I think that's a bit too soon to discuss something like that, especially since a level of 'trust' hasn't been established, nor obedience and/or fear of Dooku if Savage betrayed him.

I don't see any evidence that he expressed similar inclinations to Asajj (though the microseries doesn't count I guess, she did claim herself to be Sith in it, and expressed a desire to become Sith), who I would think would'nt have minded joining forces with Dooku at all to overthrow Sidious. I wonder if Sidious's demand to get rid of Asajj convinced Dooku that a change in leadership was in order?

I liked the relationship developed between Savage and his brother, and how they used that relationship to show his change. I do think the new Savage ripped through the Jedi and clones too easily and also declared that he took the tower without even going inside. That did feel rushed. I wish the Jedi had been established a little bit before they were dispatched, though I know it was done to show how badass Savage was. But the fact that these were just random, nameless Jedi undermined how remarkable his initial battle was.

Not sure if I like some of the changes to what was perceived about Darth Maul's origins. I preferred that his markings were Sith tattoos instead of Nightbrother markings. As for his reddish skin, I wonder if he got a skin color change to appear more like the original Sith? That's what I gather has occurred for a great number of the One Sith in the Legacy comics. But they also had those Maul-like tats, so I wonder what's the explanation for that the Lucas folks are going to eventually come up with.

That's a reasonable and interesting interpretation, I think. In a way, it humanizes Dooku, showing that he resents the order to eliminate Ventress, and it makes it kind of tragic that Ventress blames Dooku when she should really blame Palpatine/Sidious.

According to the Starwars.com episode guide, the tattoos are the markings of a warrior, not specifically a Sith or Nightbrother.
