Star Wars:The Clone Wars S3......so far

Adding Ahsoka to TCW made good sense. The other characters are forbidden to undergo any real growth or change because they're trapped between their portrayals in Episodes 2 and 3. So it's good storytelling to create an original lead character who's capable of evolving, whose future isn't already predetermined.

And Ahsoka has grown a great deal over the course of the series. In this season in particular, it's clear how much she's matured and gained in power and skill.

So no, she's not a Mary Sue by any valid definition. A Mary Sue is a character that satisfies only authorial ego and self-indulgence at the expense of story logic and audience appeal. Ahsoka's creation was solidly in service of good storytelling. And yes, she was made young to appeal to the target audience, but how in the world is it not a good idea? Deliver me from fans so short-sighted that think that it's a bad thing to bring in a larger audience for the thing they enjoy and want to see more of.

I can't see Anakin sparing Ashoka from Order 66. I mean even if he tried, which I could see him actually doing, Ashoka would provoke him into a fight IMO. Or she would eventually meet him in battle. Having her be MIA by the end of the series is a viable option that keeps her in the game for an eventual show down on down the road.

Maybe Ahsoka has the common sense to go into hiding rather than get herself killed. If she's one of just three surviving Jedi, impulsively picking a fight she can't win would be irresponsible. Also, there might be a reason she doesn't know what happened until she meets up with Obi-Wan or Yoda afterwards and they order her to lie low. Given how outgunned they are, she should have the sense to follow their lead.

Perhaps, but I just see Ashoka choosing to fight more than run. If she ran or went into hiding that could perhaps be a sign of maturity on her part, in the sense that she has learned the value of not being reckless or headstrong, or if she had younglings or other Jedi to protect, and chose them over revenge. Though if this happened, I would love to see a future confrontation. I think only Obi, Yoda, and Bail Organa perhaps knew that Anakin and Vader were the same person, so its possible that Ashoka wouldn't know who Vader was, initially at least. And perhaps she thought that Anakin had been murdered by him. Maybe its something that Obi Wan tells her, foreshadowing his lie to Luke.

I'm wondering it if would make sense to actually knight Ashoka before the end of the Clone Wars. That way she's not with Anakin perhaps, she might even get her own Padawan, and she could just be another Jedi general who was unaccounted for.

However many seasons Clone Wars runs for, the elapsed time will be three years, right? Three years is a long time for an adolescent. Maybe Ahsoka does gain the necessary maturity by the time all that shit goes down.

War DOES do that sort of thing to people. Heck, check tonight's episode. According to the producers, war has driven her to change her clothes for the first time in the show!

I do like how they've developed her so far, or at least shown her in episodes where she learns lessons about life and growing up in a time of conflict. It is somewhat disappointing that she has not yet really shown HOW these lessons have impacted her, other than changing her clothes. :P

Season Four of Clone Wars is being written right now and Filoni and Lucas confirmed at Celebration V that Season five is being worked on. They've not discussed anything beyond that. Originally Lucas wanted 100 episodes flat...not sure if that has changed or not.

Unfortunately because of it there is no balance(in the force) this season as well.

I don't know what this means. The Force is not going to be balanced until ROTJ.
They did say the balance of the Force was going to be addressed in some way this season, or so I thought.

Actually, to clarify a bit, Season 4 episodes have already been written. It's currently being produced. Season 5 is currently in the writing stages.

Good episode. Real good. Loved the exploration of wartime issues from many different perspectives. In a lot of ways, it reminded me of how DS9 used to handle complex issues, giving legitimate voices to multiple points of view. It's not perfect, or quite as good as DS9 (though, I do have to remind myself that this is aimed at a different demographic than DS9). Dooku was too villainous (would have loved to see a more idealized portrayal of him in this episode) and the final moments were a bit too contrived. But even so, this was a fantastic installment.

Wow, Ahsoka's had a growth spurt! She's taller, her head adornments are longer, and she has the look and bearing of a young woman now. She may be wearing more, but she's gotten sexier.

Anakin's new model is an improvement too, though it's a subtler change. I wonder if the new models means they won't be doing random flashback episodes anymore -- or if they'll go back to the old models if they do.

Even Palpatine has a new model, making him look older and more decrepit. There's definitely supposed to have been a passage of time here. I wonder how that fits into the chronology. How many years are supposed to have passed between Episodes II and III?

Nice to get a look at the well-intentioned folks on the Separatist side, though it was too brief, and it doesn't really fit the "Heroes on Both Sides" title. Mina Bonteri was a nice person, sure, but "hero" would be overstating it. If anything, this was more like "Villains on Both Sides," since we saw a whole clique of corrupt Republic senators here (not to mention Palpatine himself). I just hope they develop this theme further.

Was the design of that power generator on Coruscant based on the one inside Death Star 2.0 in ROTJ?

Decent episode. They should've shown sympathetic Seppies 2.5 season ago though :p I also enjoyed the Decepticons joining the Seperatists ;) And talk about loans and banking deregulation? Icing on the cake.

Very interesting to see the costuming changes. Ahsoka changed her tube top for a cleavage window. Girl's growing up. :p It was so weird to see Anakin in his ROTS outfit, suddenly I can't even remember what he wore before this. Will Obi lose his trooper armor outfit? I liked that look.

I loved that new planet. We just got our first flat screen TV this week and Clone Wars was pretty amazing spread across 42 inches. I know many people hate the politics, but I love all the intrigue.

Yeah the series does look awesome on a flat screen HDTV. I watched the first two seasons on such a device back in Sep to get ready for season three and was blown away with how great it looks. I basically watch this show for Ahoska.

I have to admit, although the idea of banking deregulation as an inimical outcome suits my liberal inclinations, it seemed rather a vague and abstract thing to treat as the focus of the episode. I'm sure there were plenty of viewers out there, particularly young ones, who saw Padme's despairing reaction to the deregulation and not understanding why she was so upset. And I'd think it would've been a more meaningful ending dramatically if the focus had been on Padme's relationship with Mina -- maybe if Padme had been left with doubts about whether her friend had betrayed her, and somehow arranged a confrontation.

Yeah, the deregulation aspect of the episode seemed a bit too obvious. It was the back-and-forth debates and discussions with Mina and Padme, Ahsoka and Lux (sp?) and even Ahsoka with Padme and Anakin that made the episode so interesting to me. Focusing on the relationships would have been a better resolution than a last-second BOOM!

This is SW.

Remember how TPM was over taxes?

This episode does have Lucas's fingerprints all over it starting with "heroes on both sides" something he has been trying to sell to everyone since at least the interim between II-III.
