Spoilers Star Wars Resistance Season One discussion

Based on Kaz's shooting in the holo-remote game (also, slightly odd to have a holographic shooting gallery featuring artificial targets but, hey, "Duck Hunt" had clay pigeons in it, so maybe I'm the one who's crazy), and his mention of never having fired a real hand blaster, I am once again forced to wonder if he found his NR fighter-pilot commission in box of Cracker Jacks. I know he's got a rich daddy and all, but, seriously.

Peacetime in a galactic power that's more or less demilitarized to show the galaxy that its not the Galactic Empire (nor the late Clone Wars era Republic). It still has a powerful military, but its not doing much, and its not taking any ex-Imperial threats seriously after almost 30 years of relative peace.

Yeah, from what was said in TFA, the only real threat to the First Order was the New Republic's fleet, not it's ground forces. So it's not that much of a shock to see that even their better pilots aren't terribly effective soldiers.

After all, the Alliance seemed to also rely more of space/air superiority with only relatively small commando/guerrilla strike groups on the ground (out of necessity, given the sheer numbers of the Imperial legions.) Indeed I think the Batttlefront tie-in book from a few years back describes the Alliance's only serious attempt to take the Empire on in a straight-up infantry war throu the mid-rim...and quite promptly got their arses handed to them. So it's not that much of a stretch that this doctrine carried over into the New Republic.

Also, unless I misheard something, I don't think Kaz said he'd never fired a blaster before, but that he was a better shot with a real one. Plus, you know, we've actually seen him fire one and while no marksman, he wasn't as useless as that game made him look, so that seems about right.

Maybe Kaz needs to bull's-eye some womp rats from a T-16. That's a proven way to become a crack shot, apparently. :D

I thought the First Order was going to kidnap Tora to blackmail Doza into accepting their help. It was a deft move to "rescue" her instead to win his trust. Although you'd think Tora would've noticed that the pirates initially reacted to the First Order troops as their employers, and thus could've discerned the double-cross.

I don't know, I kinda saw it coming. It severs ties with the pirates, makes any leaks regarding their collusion seem suspect, engenders some trust with Doza and proves to him that his security is inadequate, all in a single stroke. It's 100% Phasma's style.

Yeah that capture/rescue plot was a humdinger - I am guessing Synara's pull to the 'good guys' is complete, just in time for Kaz to expose her as the spy to Doza and everyone on the station.

Can't believe we've only got 4 more of these to go before Season 1 ends.

Well that one certainly advanced the plot.

I'm going to assume that Torra is indeed aware of the First Order's manipulations, we'll just have to wait a week or two to see the payoff of her revealing it to her dad.

And I have to admit, I was pleased to see Kaz get 0 out of 5 in that game.

One other thing: for some reason I'm perfectly fine with the scene of BB-8 banging on the door to harass and antagonize Bucket.

Indeed. I likened it to a similar situation to Guitar Hero, people who actually know how to play a guitar actually really suck at that game. So naturally, someone who is trained at an actual firearm would be terrible at a video game. Or he could have been intentionally putting on a crappy performance, to blend in as the doofus everyone thinks he is.

Besides, Kaz is a trained and qualified fighter pilot. Even in a pacifist society, he'd need to have somewhat competent marksmanship.

I thought the season has 22 episodes?

Ah! You are correct. Season one is described as having 22 episodes - the final four haven't been given titles and air dates yet so it's not clear if there is going to be a gap in the schedule or not. They might drag it out a few weeks (ugh) and air them right before Celebration 2019 in April. Here are short descriptions for the ones we know about:

15 "The First Order Occupation"
Kaz scrambles to help Synara escape the platform as the First Ordersends a contingent of stormtroopers to hunt a spy.[1]

16 "The New Trooper"
When Kel and Eila seek out Kaz's help after knocking out a stormtrooper, Kaz dons the trooper's armor to protect the kids and spyon the First Order.[1]

17 "The Core Problem"
Poe and Kaz make an unsettling discovery and must evade the First Order when they are spotted by an enemy probe droid.[1]

18 "The Disappeared"
Kaz and Torra investigate the disappearance of a friend and plan to free them from the First Order.[1]

Does it seem like those events lead up to The Force Awakens? I'm thinking The Core Problem might refer to Starkiller Base or the impending Hosnian attack.

Well the trailer for the second half of this season showed Hux giving the speech he gave in TFA right before the base fired.

Guys, it's a 22 episode season order. They just haven't released the titles/synopses for 19-22 yet. Also: Wikipedia is not the infallible font of all knowledge!

No doubt the TFA crossover will be somewhere in those final 4 episodes. Probably the finale.

This show would probably be GREAT if the main character wasn't a bumbling idiot. (Though to give him a little credit, I guess he did figure out that Synara was a pirate.)

Anyways, the highlight this week was without a doubt the poor little floor cleaner guy losing his buffer. Why would the First Order take his floor buffer away? Don't they want shiny floors?

Also, it's probably worth mentioning that Tam seems to have no problem at all with the FO. If this was a different show, one might surmise that she was putting on an act to cover for her actual dislike of the FO, but since this is this show, what are the odds that she's the FO spy?

Considering how little time there is between TFA and TLJ I could imaging the last four episodes crossing over with both, and the second season gearing up for Epsiode IX this December.

I think what we all must keep reminding ourselves is that both Ezra and Ahsoka started out as obnoxious little twerps and over time grew into some of the more well rounded characters in all of Star Wars. I see a similar trajectory for Kaz is already taking shape as the recent few episodes have demonstrated at least *some* growth in competence.

I think what makes it seem worse is that Kaz is significantly older than either Ahsoka or Ezra and he's already a pilot that's seen military service, so the clumsy bumbling just makes him look like another Jar Jar.

Assuming the rumour that EpIX will only take place a year after TLJ, the point of crossover for that movie might actually be the mid-season finale since that's close-ish the when the movie will be in theatres...which begs the question: what is the rest of the show going to be about?

I mean I guess we've all been assuming that the FO will be defeated by the end of the ST, but what if it's just a prelude to a larger, more ongoing conflict? If nothing else it would make the relatively short timeline seem a little more palatable, but a Star Wars trilogy without a climax seems very odd.

I doubt she's a spy for the First Order. I think they're just trying to create a bit of a gray area for some characters and their perspective. The Colossus has had a problem with pirates, and most recently the Captain's daughter was captured by them. It's clear there are security and defense problems, so theoretically First Order protection sounds like a good idea on paper.

That's been my impression too, with her.

I'd not be surprised if the spy is Neeku. I've been thinking it was a possibility ever since we first met him. It seems that he's so naive, he will please anyone, so why not including the First Order.
