Star Wars Rebels Season Three (spoilers)

Well, characters in name only is literally all Filoni and friends been doing since Rebels debuted, so I'm going to call BS there. .
Aside from Wedge, who's backstory has been changed, what is the issue with Filoni? Most people I have spoken with, both Star Wars fans and nonfans, have enjoyed his work and the layers it adds to the greater tapestry of the world.

I mean, I like a good Star Wars book and all, but I think Filoni has done some good work too.

I could go on and on and on. Long story short, I loathe everything he's done on Rebels (and I hate the show in general), and I wish he wasn't allowed to be in charge of anything Star Wars related ever again.

Ok....:shrug::confused:

PMs are a thing too.

I'm not the biggest fan, but even I can appreciate some of what has been done. I'm one to categorically dismiss authors based upon a single body of work, but that's me.

I liked tonight's episode! :techman:
Me too!

Now that Wedge is a Rebel, I hope they make him a recurring character. The character designs on the show have really improved over the years, so has the animation (a budget increase, I assume). Oh, and I think it might be the time for a Kallus-centric episode or two.

From what I gather, Filoni is like the JJ Abrams of Star Wars (before JJ Abrams actually went to Star Wars I mean ).

Most enjoy his work but some/a few despise him for "ruining" Star Wars and the SWEU for roughly the same reasons as JJ in Trek.

Wedge never had a canonical backstory in the first place, and since Disney wiped out the EU anyway, Filoni technically didn't change anything.

Exactly. His "backstory" in the EU was never conceived as a cohesive narrative, it was patched together from throwaway comments and story fragments from half a dozen books and comic by various authors, few if any paid much attention to what each other were doing.

It's also why you get these weird hairpin turns of him being the head of Rogue & Wraith Squadrons one minute, then being in charge of Coruscant urban renewal before swerving into to the life of a shuttle pilot...and that's without even getting into his love life.
Later books try in vain to justify this slalom career path and magpie attention span, but that's all it was.

While there is some quality work buried in there, the EU have very loose oversight on all fronts and the overall picture was that of a confused mess, constantly trying to retcon itself, like an ouroboros hydra with irritable bowl syndrome and a smoker's cough.

I could go on and on and on. Long story short, I loathe everything he's done on Rebels (and I hate the show in general), and I wish he wasn't allowed to be in charge of anything Star Wars related ever again.

So bugger off and stop watching the show and/or reading it's threads maybe? Or would that be too rational of an idea?

From what I can tell,Rebels is far from universally loved. Plus, Lucas ruined the old EU with some of his stupid TCW changes, and Filoni, while doing his part to destroy the new canon, doesn't have as much control as Lucas and so I doubt he'll ruin much that wasn't already ruined, outside of some good characters and the whole time period surrounding Rebels.

Also, as crap as JJ was on Star Trek, other people took his ST world and made a freaking awesome movie (ST Beyond). There is no one in existence would could take the Rebels characters and do anything even slightly good with them.

I'll stop posting about Rebels the second Dave Fil,oni stops ruining characters he didn't create. I'd love for that to actually happen, but until the idiot gets fired, quits or retires I think I'll be talking about him and his terrible work for a long time. I care about the SW universe, and he's relevant too it (unfortunately), so I won't be ignoring him until he stops being in a position to screw over parts of the franchise.

How utterly noble and selfless of you to go out of your way to inflict you bile and distaste upon the rest of us who are just trying to enjoy a cartoon about laser swords and spaceships.

...or how about you go with my last suggestion and just bugger off and stop watching the piece of entertainment you don't like? You're not doing a public service mate, you're just being an obnoxious gobshite.

Well, that's as cogent a reason as I have heard thus far. I don't agree with it, because I think Abrams brought in some great concepts and ideas, and introduced sides to the characters we hadn't seen before, but I understand why that might not sit well with others.

This is the first I've heard of a categorical rejection of Filioni and a hatred of his work.

I would disagree with your points, but honestly, I still don't understand the objection to Filioni's work. He's "ruining" what part of Star Wars? The time period between the PT and the OT? He's ruining what characters? Most of them are original creations, save for Vader, Maul and Wedge, that I've seen. Maybe Maul is being ruined?

I felt like 3X3 was painfully rushed in execution. Sabine gets into the academy way too easily and it's all a rehash of Ezra/Academy. This story would have needed more than 22 minutes.

I also have a problem with the ship combat. You mean to tell me that 3 TIE Interceptors can take out a Corellian Corvette?! It's like they didn't even have shields, and they never shot back! Also, I like how they say Y Wings are heavily shielded then proceed to show them exploding with a single hit from a TIE...

A couple of more thoughts about the episode:

I'd say that based on who we know, Agent Kallus is the most likely new Fulcrum agent.

The wings detaching from the TIEs is another callback to the Kenner toys. From "The Vintage Vault: Let's Study Kenner's TIE Fighter":

The final feature is the most spectacular. Pressing two buttons on either side of the cockpit will simulate battle damage by ejecting the solar wings.

Yeah the wings flying off was directly Kenner.

As for the Interceptors take on an Corvette, Corvettes are terrible against Interceptors in about any of the old games. Corvettes have terrible anti-fighter guns usually, its few turbolasers are designed for anti-capital ship work. This one looked to be less armed than the rest due to the docking ports. Shields seem to be less than effective in Star Wars most of the time. Starfighters seem to regularly be able to do damage to capital ships even with just lasers without resorting to missiles and torpedoes.

As for the Y-wings...they blew up easily enough at Yavin to just regular TIE Fighter guns (since the TIE Advanced has more or less the same firepower as a TIE Fighter). I get the impression that TIE Fighters have stronger weapons than their Clone Wars' era predecessors.

This is the first appearance of the Gallofree Yards Medium Transport in a long time.

They did say in the Rebels Recon that they had wanted to use Biggs, but just couldn't justify it enough beyond wanting him to have some sort of contact with Sabine. The thought process coming from Sabine originally sporting a checkerboard design on her shoulders and much later, Biggs has a checkerboard design on his helmet. The producers thought it be interesting to have had Sabine be the one who painted Biggs helmet. But they couldn't justify a whole story just to get that at this point.

However I noticed something else when going though some images. Hobbie's helmet has a grid rather than a checkerboard, but that could work too. Wedge has basically nothing on his helmet. Its a dark grey on the light grey.

I am curious about Vult Skerris, the elite Interceptor pilot. He has a lot of kill marks on his TIE, and he's got not only red tips on his fighter, but also some custom work on his uniform, which I would think would be out of protocol (but make it much easier for us to spot him). He is not Baron Sootir Fel like I had thought from the promos. We seem to be accumulating new enemies in large numbers again.

A pretty safe bet considering it was clearly the same voice actor playing both parts.
On the other hand it could be some intentional misdirection on the showrunner's part, since fans managed to recognise Ashley Eckstein's voice in season 1 fairly quickly.

There's still a way they can sort of do that, if the helmet Biggs was wearing was originally Sabine's. I mean if we stick with the version of events from the deleted scene, he wasn't in the rebellion much longer than Luke (like a few days at most) so it's not inconceivable that he was just chucked a helmet out of the spares pile. All they'd need to do is at some point show Sabine wearing that same helmet.

Bit of a random detail on it's own though and quite shallow without the direct connection between the two characters.

Preview shows that the Empire is now using Bike Scout Troopers. I guess Ezra will need to add one to his helmet collection.

Really old comics EU has Biggs and Hobbie jump ship together after they left the Academy. What is unclear is if Biggs jumped ship after he talked to Luke (in filmed scene) or if he half lied and had already done so by that point.

On the other hand, if Rebels does follow up on Maul searching for Kenobi, we could still have an encounter with a Biggs Darklighter of Tatooine.

There was something ominous mentioned in the Rebels Recon about the Empire taking all these really bright young prodigy type students into the military (like Sabine, who said she was at the Academy for years) and that that will come out later in the season. Remember that Sabine is only a year or two older than Ezra and had a bounty hunter career of sorts after she left the Academy. Not only that, but she had some kind of serious training by her family and clan before that. She started really young. Since we know there is more Madalorian material coming this season via the trailers and this other knowledge (as well as it suggested that Katee Sackhoff will be back at Bo-Katan) means we should be getting a bunch of backstory and modern Madalorian materials later this season.

I don't watch Rebels, and haven't since the space whales. But, I'm going to keep up with what they're doing, because I love the SW universe and want to know what characters I like that the show is going to ruin. I have to keep up with the absolute worst part of the franchise, because it can effect the good parts of the SW Universe. So, yeah, while I won't be commenting on episodes when there is big news about formerly good SW characters I will probably comment on it. So, I won't be "buggering off". I'll stop posting about things the show does when it ends.
