Star Wars Rebels Season Three (spoilers)

One of the Writers/Story editors said there is a surprise Cameo in next weeks episode.

I'm thinking it is the pilot that looks like Gold Leader that popped up in the mid season trailer.

Considering this episode has Y-Wings in it, I think it might be a safe bet.

Is anyone stoked for this?

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping this doesn't actually end in a fight. For one thing, we've seen that already, more than once.
I can't quite articulate the thought, but something about Maul's character development makes me feel there should be more talking than action. Not conciliatory exactly. More introspective. Though it may still end with the swing of a blade, regardless.

Maul: Your powers are weak, old man.

Ben: Yeah, well I cut the Chosen One into pieces and watching as he burned alive. He's the one that killed YOUR replacement.

Maul: Dude.

I know it's extremely unlikely to go down like this, but I can't get the image out of my head of Maul pulling that same submissive salute Ben made in his final moments and actually allowing Kenobi to cut him down. Bonus points of utter astonishment if the body disappears...but yeah, that's never going to happen.

Maybe Maul will try and turn Ezra against Obi-Wan.
Not sure how that would work since 1) Ezra has no connection to Obi-Wan aside from seeing his recorded warning and hearing Ahsoka speak fondly of him (also possibly Rex), 2) Ezra doesn't even remotely trust Maul and 3) From what we've seen, Ezra isn't even present in that scene.

Ben: So why don't you run along on those ridiculous metal legs before you get hurt.

Sorry, I've been liking what Rebels has done, especially with expanding the Force lore with the Bendu, and Kanan's arc, and have been semi impressed with Maul. But, this little fight promo, annoys me because it feels whole cloth fan service.

Everyone needs some "red meat for the base" on occasion. ;)

I decided shortly after I saw it that the ending of Rogue One with the Tantive IV (tan-ta-VEE) didn't make much sense. But then I decided THAT I DON'T CARE BECAUSE IT WAS AWESOME!

I might feel the same way about getting to see Old Ben. Sometimes fan service is terrific.

Thanks Reverend, that's a good point I wanted to bring up: Kanan does have a connection to Obi Wan from watching this recording for years and probably never expects to ever see him. It would be a huge moment for Kanan to meet Obi Wan... not that I think it's going to happen but there's no point in Ezra meeting Obi Wan. We know Kanan isn't on board the Ghost in next week's episode so... maybe the crew is really split up near the end of this season. I would like it if Obi Wan stayed hidden from the heroes - his location only known to Bail Organa. But then again - Ezra has had a vision of Twin Suns. I guess they have to do something with that information?

New promo, lots of clips from the final few episodes. Recorded from a TV screen so it may vanish soon...

My prediction for Obi Wan (Ben) vs Maul:
  • Obi Wan watching over Luke (in the distance) as he picks up power converters, Toshi station, etc
  • Maul tracks down Obi Wan, there is an initial defensive encounter
  • Maul and Obi Wan discover they both actually have the same goal - ending the Empire/Palpatine.
  • Perhaps some of what Maul saw in his vision with Ezra helps Obi Wan somehow?
  • Maul attempts to assist Obi Wan and somehow dies/sacrifices himself in the process. OR Maul and Obi Wan disagree on how/when to end the Sith and they do end up in a final duel - again.
[Shrug] Who knows? This show has been great about giving us a good story twist here and there. We know that Maul almost was killed off earlier in the series... with everyone expecting a battle royale we may end up with an unlikely alliance as the twist.

I've always believed that Obi Wan would end up killing Maul again in either The Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels because for the casual viewer (who won't touch the Star Wars animated series') they will still think Obi Wan killed Maul in The Phantom Menace. If Obi Wan does kill Maul "again" then the trivia question of "Who defeated Darth Maul" will once again be correct as Obi Wan. They do have to get rid of him soon - as much as I am a fan, it's getting ridiculous all these protracted Maul plot lines.

IIRC, Filoni said there wouldn't be any Vader in S3, and I'm not really sure how they could work Yoda into the remaining episodes.

That's right I remember that. I wonder how long Vader had to sit in that bacta bath?? Was he in there the whole time since his fight with Ahsoka? I doubt it - that's like 2.5 years worth of story time. Anyway, while it would be great to see Vader in Rebels again, I'd be happy knowing at least what he's been up to.

Vader has other Rebels to hunt down. Perhaps other Jedi Padawan to track, or a half dozen more inquisitors to train.

I counted the Rebel ships present in the clip.

1 Quasar Fire - Light Carrier (probably Phoenix Home)
1 Mon Calamari Cruiser (MC80 style, possibly Home One) - might still be an explorer or passenger liner at this point.
5 Nebulon-B Frigates
4 Hammerhead Corvettes
8 Corellian Corrvettes (or Alderaanian Cruisers, Blockade Runners, what have you)
2 Gallofree Yards Medium Freighters
(Ghost with 2 Y-wings attached)
Possible more coming out of hyperspace.

That is the kind of thing I would expect Grand Admiral Thrawn to be after using an Interdictor Cruiser and a whole lot of Imperial Star Destroyers.

Given his condition I imagine he spends most of his down time floating in bacta as I imagine he's in a near constant state of agony. Also the fact that by RotJ it looked like he's aged about 50 more years than he should have otherwise indicates a massive and prolonged state of intense stress.

Possible, I think at least this season is going to end badly for the characters and maybe scattering the cast once Thrawn finds their base and puts a stop to their plans for attacking Lothal.

Someone from the team, maybe Filoni said Vader is off handling something more important

Other trailers also showed those weird one off ships from the rebel fleet from ROTJ. They were also in Rogue One.

I honestly want to see a fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul because it would be Amazing
