I don't post in this forum very much, yet in the forums I do post in, there is some sort of general discussion thread. I figured why not here, especially since I'm trying to get back into Star Wars, I just reupped Disney+ for another year, and I started Andor earlier in the week and I'm through the first 6 episodes. I didn't really want to create a new thread for it, but I do want to post some thoughts as I watch.

So far, I think the thing that this series has going for it is they are doing a great job world building. I've always wanted to see the Star Wars universe without the Sith or the Jedi (One of the reasons I liked Solo) and it feels like Andor is providing that. I'm liking the format of 2 episodes of development and building and then the third episode provides a payoff. The recent episode I saw, The Eye, was gorgeous in terms of effects and quite fun because I got to know the characters in the previous two episodes. Right now I am liking Andor and I'm liking Vel (The same actress is actually in Ted Lasso which is cool) and the Ahdhani Heist was awesome. I also like seeing the political building too, with the imperial council, Mon Mothma, and Luthen's character. Looking forward to how the first season ends and then I guess the second season builds towards Rouge One.

Lucas Arts was their video game division.

Lucas film did all the films and shows. The original interesting ideas of the Star Wars universe with"Splinter of a Mind's Eye," before Empire Strikes Back, plus the Holiday Special, then the rest of the OT.

Star wars feit a lot wilder back then.

They’re still only made by Lucasfilm (which Disney now owns). Unless you’re referring to tie-ins licensed by Lucasfilm to “subcontractors”, but those have existed since 1976 anyway.

(I always found it fascinating that the earliest editions of Brain Daley’s Han Solo books said “From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker” in small print on the covers, even though Luke Skywalker wasn’t in them.)

Watched up to episode 10 of Andor last night. Luthen's speech (I wish we knew more about him, I feel like we barely know anything about him) could rival Demar's speech. That was a great speech about sacrifice. The prison break was awesome too.

I'm hoping Season 2 gets good soon because 2 episodes in and I feel like Andor is spreading itself a little too thin. There are 4 different plotlines happening and none of them were particularly interesting (Even though the one with the Ghormans was not very much in episode 2, but it was pretty good in episode 1). Also, Rock Paper Scissors? Like I said, I watched the season 1 finale and was enthrallwed by what was happening. One year later and I'm just hoping the show finds itself again.

Andor is generally setup for three episode arcs. So either the plots are working towards the third episode of the arc, or the plot will be different/better the next arc. Season two was doing time skips between arcs (about a year) to get from the end of the First season to Rogue One by the end of the show.

I finished the series today. I think I can safely say that the first three episodes were not nearly as great as what came after. I think I could have done entirely without the wedding scene, and there were some powerful moments, but it was nowhere near what came after.

What came after was really great though, especially the Ghorman arc. I was following some of the reviews on IMDB, and the Ghorman Massacre episode was considered the best episode of the series, but I think the episode that came after was better. You can have big event episodes but usually the episode that comes after is a bit of a downgrade. I loved that episode though and I loved Mon's speech revealing Palpatine. It was powerful and the extraction scene was really well done.

Overall, I liked the series but I wonder if the jumping a year after every three episodes kind of hurt it some. I think the best example of this was Cinta's death. I kind of rolled my eyes at how predictably telegraphed it was and I wish we had gotten more with it. I also thought Season 1 was much more cohesive and had a lot more going for it. As for the final episodes, I really enjoyed Luthan and Kleya's origin story, and I know they were setting up Rouge One but I was surprised the finale really was moving the chess pieces around. It was very much subdued for a series finale. I'm glad I watched it, and I'm thinking if last year was the year of catching up with Marvel, this year might be the year I catch up with Star Wars. I'm even thinking about giving The Acolyte a go.
