I personally liked the trailer, but I had no idea who Boyega was until this trailer, either. I'm following the news closely, but if the actors name isn't Hamil, Ford or Fischer, I don't think anyone should really be expected to know who the new actors in episode VII are at this point. I'm sure they'll do a fine job, but John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are pretty new, fairly obscure actors (Ridley has one movie credit and a few small TV credits, Boyega has a bit more but not much). They could (and hopefully will) turn out to be great characters and actors, but its easily possible to be paying attention to movie news and not know either of them on sight.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not agreeing with the statement that the trailer looked like a fan made one (it didn't to me, I thought it was great and Boyega and Ridley's characters seem like they'll be interesting), I just think its reasonable for someone not to be able to identify the mostly unknown actors in the trailer by sight.
I'd never even heard of John Boyega before the Episode VII casting announcements were made, and if I'd seen Daisy Ridley before then I'd either forgotten or didn't know that it was her I was watching. With the exceptions of Andy Serkis and Max von Sydow most of the supporting cast seemed pretty unknown to me at the time their names were made public.
Jez, i've seen the guy in one movie about 3 years ago and that's all. He's not that famous. i had no idea who the girl or the X-Wing pilot was either if that makes it any better. I avoid plot spoilers too if I can so I have no idea who is playing what.

I recognized Boyega right away since he did several episodes of 24: Live Another Day earlier this year.
On the other hand you also have unknown duds like Hayden Christensen. And of course McGregor and Neeson were both known actors and they did very well especially McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Per IMDB, Carrie Fisher did exactly 2 things before SW. Shampoo in 1975 & a TV movie 1969 (as a 13 year old).

Not really it was pretty well known that she's Eddie Fisher's daughter, she kind of grew up in the spotlight.
And were the best actors in the entire film (even though Harrison Ford was displaying clear signs of future greatness in his debut as Han Solo).
Yes, as a kid I would read that Carrie Fisher was Eddie Fisher's daughter...and had no idea who Eddie Fisher was.
I didn't know who Eddie Fisher was when I was very young, but I had heard of Debbie Reynolds and I knew Carrie's mother was a Hollywood star. To this day I associate Princess Leia with her mother a whole lot more than I do her father, even though they share the same last name.

That would be my fifth-favorite Harrison role, after Indy, Han, Dr. Richard Kimble and his character in The Mosquito Coast. I like Blade Runner, but I just don't enjoy his performance in that movie as much as I do his roles in some others.
