Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Yeah it's one thing to capture someones genuine reaction to something. But a lot of this is clearly people just amping themselves up and massively overacting for the camera.

If you feel that way then check out RLM's piss take video of Rich Evan's reaction. LOVE that they take the piss out of these Gen Stupid tards!

Well I suppose if you haven't been following the news and had no idea what John Boyega looked like.....

But that just seems really strange and unlikely to me, especially for anyone who regularly visits SW threads in scifi message boards.

I personally liked the trailer, but I had no idea who Boyega was until this trailer, either. I'm following the news closely, but if the actors name isn't Hamil, Ford or Fischer, I don't think anyone should really be expected to know who the new actors in episode VII are at this point. I'm sure they'll do a fine job, but John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are pretty new, fairly obscure actors (Ridley has one movie credit and a few small TV credits, Boyega has a bit more but not much). They could (and hopefully will) turn out to be great characters and actors, but its easily possible to be paying attention to movie news and not know either of them on sight.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not agreeing with the statement that the trailer looked like a fan made one (it didn't to me, I thought it was great and Boyega and Ridley's characters seem like they'll be interesting), I just think its reasonable for someone not to be able to identify the mostly unknown actors in the trailer by sight.

Fair enough. I just assumed after the huge casting announcement most fans had either seen or looked up photos of the various actors by now.

But whatevs. :)

I'd never even heard of John Boyega before the Episode VII casting announcements were made, and if I'd seen Daisy Ridley before then I'd either forgotten or didn't know that it was her I was watching. With the exceptions of Andy Serkis and Max von Sydow most of the supporting cast seemed pretty unknown to me at the time their names were made public.

Regardless, seeing his face should have been a big tip-off that this wasn't just another fan-created trailer. Which is what it sounded like people here were suggesting.

And he's actually been rumored to be a former Stormtrooper for quite awhile. At least on all the sites I've been reading the last few months (MakingStarWars, StarWars7news, StarWarsUnderworld, etc).
Jez, i've seen the guy in one movie about 3 years ago and that's all. He's not that famous. i had no idea who the girl or the X-Wing pilot was either if that makes it any better. I avoid plot spoilers too if I can so I have no idea who is playing what.

Unknown is usually considered a good thing for Star Wars. Who had heard of Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher before Star Wars. Harrison Ford wasn't all that well know either then. Natalie Portman has done wonders since Star Wars.

Everybody should check out Attack the Block which stars Boyega. It's a really great movie and he's really good in it.

Well, say hello to strange and unlikely, because the name John Boyega does not ring any bells with me.
:)

Per IMDB, Carrie Fisher did exactly 2 things before SW. Shampoo in 1975 & a TV movie 1969 (as a 13 year old).

So yeah, in 1977, "who is Carrie Fisher?" was something a lot of people were asking.

Not really it was pretty well known that she's Eddie Fisher's daughter, she kind of grew up in the spotlight.

Well, for us kids who were being introduced to this movie called "Star Wars" for the first time...she was 'Princess Leia' portrayed by this unknown actress named Carrie Fisher.

But, I understand where you're coming from.

Yes, as a kid I would read that Carrie Fisher was Eddie Fisher's daughter...and had no idea who Eddie Fisher was.

I didn't know who Eddie Fisher was when I was very young, but I had heard of Debbie Reynolds and I knew Carrie's mother was a Hollywood star. To this day I associate Princess Leia with her mother a whole lot more than I do her father, even though they share the same last name.

That would be my fifth-favorite Harrison role, after Indy, Han, Dr. Richard Kimble and his character in The Mosquito Coast. I like Blade Runner, but I just don't enjoy his performance in that movie as much as I do his roles in some others.
