Spoilers Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 - Panel News/Announcements Thread

The Creature Cantina just started on the livestream. Guess that means we're not getting the Clone Wars panel, alas.

ETA: spoke too soon, we are getting the clone wars panel after all!

And TotJ season 2 is confirmed!
I honestly wasn't sure it was going to happen since it's been so long since it premiered, so It's nice to know they're keeping it going.

Also; official recap of yesterday's LF showcase.

It's simple: if this movie does well, Disney will want to make more, and if she isn't contracted for more, she'd be able to hold up said sequels for a higher salary. Ergo, it's only logical for Disney to lock her in to more than one movie up front, especially since the first movie will serve as its own advertisement for the potential others. Bringing her back at all is an investment, and one they'll want to capitalize on.

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is a big enough star to secure a one-movie returns to his role. But Ridley? Nah.

As you said, she's definitely contracted for more. But that's just SOP, doesn't mean there will actually be another movie or even plans for one. But it's just how you do business, you put those clauses in precisely for the reasons you delineated.

Well this is interesting; word out of the High Republic panel is that Vernestra Rwoh will be in 'The Acolyte'. I'm guessing that's Rebecca Henderson's character which she already cryptically (and weirdly specifically) described as a "Mirialan elder Jedi Master". Since 'The Acolyte' takes place a century after Phase I, that seems to track.
Kinda wild that the youngest Jedi from one era shows up as among the eldest in another.
I'm wondering if Joonas Suotamo might be playing Buryyaga Agaburry, I can't imagine there were that many Wookie Jedi running around so close to when Phases 1 & 3 of The High Republic take place.

If they end up calling it "Episode X" we'll expect an XI and XII...

Day 3 Celebration stream is live.
Also just a reminder; I'm still occasionally updating the OP with links to each day's livestream for anyone that wants to catch up.
ETA: Here's some of the Ahsoka cast & crew interviews from yesterday.

No, they were very definite that he wasn't Buryyaga, but a new character called Kelnacca. Keep in mind; the Acolyte takes place about a century after the last time we saw Buryyaga, and likewise about a century before the Clone Wars when Gungi was a padawan. I think three Jedi Wookiees spread across as many centuries still counts as "rare" in an organization that hovered around 10,000 strong.

And because one can't post more than 5 videos at once, here's a few more.

OK, the story I saw just said he was playing a Wookiee Jedi, they didn't say anything about them revealing his name.

It occurs to me there may be a kind of grand irony at play here: when Filoni was starting out, and even getting into the Rebels timeline, he was doubtless barred from doing series/stories about Luke, Leia, and Han because those characters were too important for mere animation. (Yes, I know that there's a Rebels episode featuring Leia.) So instead, he worked with his characters Ahsoka and Ezra, and kept working with them... with the result being that not only do they have far more total canon screen time than Luke/Leia/Han, Ahsoka is now poised to eclipse their screen time in live action, too. As for Luke/Leia/Han, when the franchise did use them again, they did so only to discard them fairly quickly.

So, we've got a case where the classic, "important" characters are limited to books and comics, while the "secondary" characters are starting to not only dominate the Disney+ series, but they're heading for the big screen themselves. It's... kinda wild.

Which disproves your point. Also, you forgot that Luke not just appeared on screen in Rebels but also that "Twin Suns" was about Luke.

You're proceeding from a false assumption. There's been absolutely no indication that they were "barred" from using any particular characters. Indeed, had they pitched a Luke, Leia & Han show set immediately after ANH or RotJ, Disney would likely have been all for it! All they really cared about is to have something on DisneyXD to sell toys and sticker books.

The reason they didn't use them beyond cameos is because 1) the most interesting part of their story has already been told, and 2) they wanted to tell the story of the formation of the rebellion, and obviously those characters wouldn't factor in to that much. Even if they did a Leia show; until ANH she was still ostensibly a Senator. Kinda hard to do a tween friendly adventure focused Saturday morning style cartoon when it's all political intrigue, espionage, and committee meetings.

The basis of Rebels was actually a concept they'd originally started developing for 'Clone Wars' before Lucas got more directly involved. The creative team initially assumed he wouldn't want them using Anakin & Obi-Wan so they came up is a crew of smuggler/scoundrel types (plus a pair of original Jedi & Padawan characters), with the war as more of a backdrop for the setting. Then Lucas rolled up and he was like "Nope, we're using all the Jedi, and the clones, and oh BTW Anakin has a padawan that's a 14 year old alien girl!"

I think both 'Rebels', 'Clone Wars' and now 'Bad Batch' & TotJ have more than proven LFA's willingness to use any character they damn well please, great or small (that doesn't directly step on the toes of another active project.)

Day 4's Stream is about to go live . . .
Bad Batch is first up, so we'll see if Season 3 is a go shortly (probably will.)

ETA: it will, and not surprisingly, it'll be the final season. The livestream cut away right after that, but those present got a sneak peak at season 3.
Aside from Cody already confirmed by Jennifer Corbett during the panel to be back, word is the preview included glimpses of Wolfe, Rex, Fennec Shand, Palpatine, and seemingly another time jump with an older looking Omega (presumably it takes a while for her to get off Wayland.)

I think 3 seasons is good for the Bad Batch. The characters aren't around in future episodes of Star Wars so I imagine some kind of 'The Wild Bunch' sendoff. Except for Omega. I bet they have plans for her beyond this show.

To me no one really knew how to use the OT crew after the OT. It's just too neat a wrap up.
No idea if this rumor is true but supposedly disney pushed the newer characters because of some merchandising deal George had with the original characters meaning disney couldn't maximize the profit without introducing new characters.
