The Clone Wars film has been announced for Blu-Ray (Link - November 11 is the date), but nothing else yet. I don't know what the delay is.

The demand isn't there yet. Give it a few years and we'll see the Ultimate Editions on Blue-Ray. Complete with CGI Yoda in TPM, inserted deleted scenes, and totally fixed lightsabers in the OT.

I would like to point out it is called Blu-Ray not Blue Ray. That's really becoming a peeve of mine. :klingon:

The library of Blu-Ray titles is getting bigger, with stuff like The Ultimate Matrix Collection and The Godfather Trilogy coming out. And new releases are most likely going to entail Blu-Ray versions, like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Wall-E, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Hancock, Get Smart, Hellboy II, etc.

Regarding your previous Blu-Ray post, your HD-DVD player isn't worthless. It's not like every HD-DVD player worldwide suddenly stopped working, you can still watch the titles you have and get other titles for pretty damn cheap. You just can't get upcoming movies.

Lucas waited a long time before bringing the OT out on DVD, I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing it again with the Blu-Ray release.

^ Well you could've gotten them from many online stores for around $10 or less during the spring, but since they're not being produced anymore, they're studdenly costly for brand new at online stores. You'd have to find a local store like a Fry's or Future Shop or something like that which carried a lot of HD-DVD titles and are still trying to get rid of them.

If you're looking for used, that might be easier.

I downloaded a 720p copy of Empire Strikes Back...Totally stunning, worth checking out until the films are officially released on BluRay.

Ive got all 6 Star Wars films on My HD-DVR I recorded them off HBO-HD or Showtime-HD. Im not sure if the are 720 or 1080 but they look damn good.
But as to your question I dont see why they are taking soo long to get them out on Blue-Ray. Its not that there isnt a demand. Its more that George Suckass probably wants to develop his own HD format so he can retain exclusive rights. Bunch O Bull$h!t if you ask me. He could have my money. Id buy all 6 SW films and all Star Trek on Blue-Ray. So Ill just take them for free (or the cost of HBO) for now. Thats pretty stupid on his part...He must not want my money. And I sure as hell wouldnt WASTE my money buying them on standard format...

And a whole host of other new things for fans to complain about!

The Ultimate Editions will be raping the childhoods of the people that grew up with the Special Editions (which are 11 years old now!)

I don't have Blu-Ray so I haven't followed all the releases but I imagine the *big* titles will be spaced out to maximize demand/sales opportunities. Just as they were for the original DVD releases.

To follow up on a previous comment:

The original Star Wars boxset didn't come out on DVD until 2004, a full 7 years after the introduction of DVD. Jurassic Park was earlier, in 2000. So to expect either of these franchises to be out on BD less than three years into the format is ridiculous.

Add into that the lack of Blu-ray production lines and the fact the existing lines are crammed to capacity...there's all the reasons you need. Be patient, they will come.
