Star Wars BLUE RAY?

It's all very simple. Lucas is a master bussinessman......

He's waiting until Blu-ray players are more commonplace so that when Star Wars is released it will be accompanied by a massive ad campaign and everyone and thier brother will buy it. If he released them now, the sales would be small (due to low # of homes with Blu-ray) and there would be less sales down the line as it was marginalized over the years....he wants a Big Release campaign like in 2004.

The fact is, right now Blu-Ray is a niche market. I myself don't know a single person who owns one. I'm enough of a movie geek that I would get one, but sadly I'm also a poor college student.

I doubt that very much.

Seeing that DVD still outsells Blu-Ray at roughly 10:1 I'm inclined not to doubt that.

Oh, I'm not denying that standard DVD is outselling Blu-Ray (for the moment). But that doesn't necessarily mean that there's not *enough* demand for BR versions, just that there's *more* demand for regular DVD.

Where I live, San Diego california, Blue Ray areas of the stores are expanding...wallmart, Best Buy, seem to be going Blue ray more and more...My player is a Sony, but I see that Phillips is putting out more affordable players now at $320...not bad...I paid $399 for mine..

Yep... every time I go to Best Buy it seems the Blu-Ray section has added another 60 square feet of display area, and DVD has 60 square feet less.

I would like to point out it is called Blu-Ray not Blue Ray. That's really becoming a peeve of mine. :klingon:

If we want to get into the nitty-gritty of it, it's actually Blu-ray Disc, with a lowercase "r."

I can buy the reason for the delay being that Lucas is working on the Ultimate Editions. If that's the one, I'm okay with it. But I still have a hard time believing that there is no demand for Blu-Ray versions as it is.

I thought of this after posting, but then realized it still holds true. All my friends went with X-box:lol:

But still, my point stands, the amount of Blu-ray players in people's homes is waaaay under what Lucas wants before he'll release Star Wars on Blu-ray.

More's the pity.

Oh well, however long it takes for bLU-rAY versions to come out, I have a feeling it will be worth it.

Without a doubt. There's no denying Star Wars is a must have for HD.

And as much as I prefer the Special Editions, maybe this is Lucas' chance to provide decent (i.e. anamorphic) versions of the theatrical cuts. Although if he does that, they probably won't be in high def, even if they show up on the bLu-rAy versions.
