News Star Wars Andor anticipation thread

So does the green screens on the top of the building mean it's going to be expanded with CGI in the final show?
Probably. That or they intend to do extensive sky replacement and that's the easiest way to pull a clean key for the matte.

ETA: well this is what happens when I forget to refresh before posting..

Oh, I didn't realize they'd do green over the top of the building for a CGI skyline.

The main purpose of any chroma key screen is so then can pull as clean a matte line as possible, be it positive, or negative space. It's certainly possible to do sky replacement without it, but it's a pain for anything other than a locked off shot. Throwing up a screen here and there just makes it easier for vfx down the line.

Also consider it may not just purely sky replacement. If this is meant to be a spaceport then there may be ships flying overhead, and again they'd need a clean matte line if for instance the shot requires the ship to fly over and behind the building.

Oh, OK. I thought the green was just for what was being replaced, so if it was just a thin line on the top of a building, then the top of the building was being replaced.

For a set extension like that, they don't need a matte line for the actual scenery. They may however need one if anyone or anything is expected to pass between the camera and the new element.

For example; say you have a location set where it's just a few building facades and a road that stretches on for miles, but in the final shot, you want a more substantial, built up town around the location with a ton more buildings lining the street. For the most part they can just directly overlay that onto frame--no greenscreen required-- just like you can add a layer in photoshop and draw whatever you please.
But what if the shot requires a character to be in frame, and they're standing/walking "in front" of where the new additions are going to go? Well, they just erect a greenscreen down the road, so when the actor moves across that part of the frame, they can pull a clean matte line and create an alpha mask. Now when the CG set extension is composited, the actor stays *infront* of the background and doesn't disappear behind it.

Rumour has it that some of the filming is being done very close to me within my local council area.
Lots of filming EVERYWHERE right now....Burghley House is being used for Wayne Manor for The Flash right now........

Not that you'll be able to tell the were it was filmed once they done the CGI work to remove any modern buildings etc.. But as far as rumours go it's likely a beach scene.

When they shot the NY city invasion/fight in Albuquerque, they had huge green screens stretched over a good portion of downtown. It was funny to watch the movie, recognize street level areas of Albuquerque, but see the NY skyline and buildings.

So possible returning character/actor leaked for Andor

"Stellan Skarsgård was on Swedish radio today talking about his current projects, including Andor. He mentions a juicy scene with Forrest Whittaker. Will try and translate more of the interview as soon as I can. Link to full interview (in Swedish) https://sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/1744726"

Who is Stellan Skarsgård playing or do we know?

I was asked to work on it a couple of times. It had MANY start and stops. It filmed under the name Pilgrim at Pinewood. I hear it's set for 10 episodes. That is still like 5 feature films.......so still a quicker pace than a feature.

So i read today that the show will be set 5 years before Rogue One.
In the same news piece it also mentioned the return of some Star Wars characters and a rumored return of one major major Star Wars character.

Snoke
I bet some people will hate that but it's definitely a character worth exploring more.
