Star Trek makes US$26 million on Saturday

Deadline Hollywood, who got the Friday numbers right, say Star Trek made US$26mil on Saturday, an increase of 9% over Friday, bringing the weekend total now to US$57mil with Sunday to go!

Sources tell me that Paramount's Star Trek did $26M Saturday. That's 9% more than the J.J. Abrams reboot made on Friday, which is a surprise and demonstrates that the pic is widening well beyond its rabid fanbase of Trekkies. I hear the studio is now confident the 3 1/2-weekend total on 3,849 theaters will reach $75M (which includes Thursday night's $7M screenings and Sunday estimate of $18M). The 3-day weekend totals $68M.

I love the 9% increase over Friday. WOM is going strong here.

BIGGEST weekend opening for Trek EVER.

According to my ISP's newspage, the numbers have already climbed to $31 million.

That's not bad for just a few hours.

I saw it again last night and the audience was much bigger than on opening day. Great news. We need these numbers if we want to have a sequel.

Looks like James T. Kirk is whipping Wolverturd's ass like a rented effing mule, at least as far as legs are concerned.

Now expect a serious dropoff when the Terminator and Transformer films come out. But this thing will hit its domestic targets and, I suspect, overperform internationally.

Both two weeks away, so the big drop-offs will occur there. I think what's pushing this film is the fantastic word of mouth it's getting. People are seeing it and then saying - "hey that Star Trek film - it didn't suck! go see it!"

I don't even remember the last time I've seen a movie twice in the week but this Trek film is just great. I'm not sick of it yet. Guessing another two times before I wait for DVD but damn its going to be a loooong wait.

Same here. The only movie I saw in a cinema in 2008 was Iron Man. I have seen Star Trek twice in two days. Hopefully more like us!

I'll be going again in another few hours as well. This is very exciting to watch and be a part of!

Transformers comes out in June actually. I'd also worry about Angels and Demons, that could steal Star Trek's thunder as a lot people find that crap more interesting.
