Star Treks makes US$26 million on Saturday

Link to anyone saying that? I highly doubt ST even approaches $200 Million. If it has a better than Standard drop off next week of 45-50%, With the midweek grosses we'll be at $110-120 Mil Pre-Terminator. Hardly seems like a road to 150 let alone 200.

And believe me, I want it to make as much as possible. The numbers just don't look there to me.

I'm not going to aggregate everything I've been reading, but after this opening weekend, most final gross forecasts have a floor of $170 million. "Reboots," particularly critically successful and popular ones, open small and keep on going. Batman Begins opened with only $48 million but finished with over $200 million -- it can be done, and Trek should have the word of mouth to do it.

I think the people around here are tending to be a bit too optimistic about Box office. That being said, I am doing my part by going for round 3 on sunday.

Thursday - me and two non trek pals
Saturday - me and one non trek wife
Sunday - me and one slightly trekish pal.

Total - $63

When I used to pay close attention to Trek box office - the 1980s - my vague recollection is that opening Saturdays were the biggest day of the week for movies in general. Is it actually usually Friday?

In the usual opening weekend cycle of a film Saturday is usually the biggest of the three days... I was actually thinking S.T. would have done slightly better than in did on Saturday night. I was thinking about 28-29m.

I'm nit picking here. The opening weekend numbers are a monumental success by any measure.

A $75 million dollar Thursday night through Friday seems very likely. Believe it or not ST has a 50/50 shot at a $200 million domestic take.

I like the classic Star Trek and have no desperate need for nuTrek unlike most fans.

Why don't you stick around the cobwebs of the TOS forum then?

RAMA
And let the bashing begin of those of us who disagree with the "PRO-NuTrek" crowd. Am I right in seeing somewhere that "NuTrek" did not beat XMEN Origins:Wolverine in it's opening day take-in?

Considering how long The Sarah Connor Chronicles lasted on TV (i.e. not very), I have my doubts about Terminator Salvation having that great a run. Chronicles getting canceled likely means one (if not both) of two things: that audiences are reluctant to accept the idea of Terminator without Ahnuld in the starring role, or that they have just had their fill of the Terminator franchise altogether. Neither of these scenarios bode well for Salvation. Oh, it will still cut into Trek's take, but I have a hunch it won't be quite as deeply as expected.

Make no mistake "Terminator" will cut into Star Trek's box office in it's opening weekend, but early word on Terminator Salvation is a little underwhelming.

The "Terminator" franchise does not have the buzz it once had and will rise or fall on how good a movie it is. The failure of the "Sarah Connor Chronicles" to attract a large tv following is insignificant to this films long term box office numbers.

I look for a big opening and then a fairly quick drop off for T4 assuming that the movie is slightly better than average. Mind you I'm not talking about a 75% drop off like Wolverine suffered, but a significant one none the less.

Which means unless this thing has Iron Man type legs, ST might not even get to $150 Mil and make back its budget. :(
That's overly pessimistic, by a long shot. The Saturday increase indicates that word of mouth is strong and its legs should be good. Even a multiplier of the three-day opening of 2.5X (plus the $7 mil from Thursday night) would lead to a domestic gross of $177 million. It has an excellent shot at $200 million.

just posted it in the box office thread with link...

being reported as $76.5 million OW...Wolverine falls heavier than X-3 did with 68% drop off.

Of course Trek will make back its budget, it already has counting International Box Office.

about worldwide....

International box office estimates aren't officially in yet, but rumors are that Trek is close to Wolverine's $72 million, which would be unprecedented for the franchise, and a sign that this Trek is a bona fide hit for Paramount.

Re: Star Trek makes US$26 million on Saturday

Deadline Hollywood, who got the Friday numbers right, say Star Trek made US$26mil on Saturday, an increase of 9% over Friday, bringing the weekend total now to US$57mil with Sunday to go!

Quote :
Sources tell me that Paramount's Star Trek did $26M Saturday. That's 9% more than the J.J. Abrams reboot made on Friday, which is a surprise and demonstrates that the pic is widening well beyond its rabid fanbase of Trekkies. I hear the studio is now confident the 3 1/2-weekend total on 3,849 theaters will reach $75M (which includes Thursday night's $7M screenings and Sunday estimate of $18M). The 3-day weekend totals $68M.

Great news..definitely taking the Iron Man track (with a saturday increase)

You obviously didn't read this:

If anything, it was the poster who was attacking those that LIKED it. I simply made a suggestion he leave. Simple.
