Star Treks makes US$26 million on Saturday

I don't even remember the last time I've seen a movie twice in the week but this Trek film is just great. I'm not sick of it yet. Guessing another two times before I wait for DVD but damn its going to be a loooong wait.

Same here. The only movie I saw in a cinema in 2008 was Iron Man. I have seen Star Trek twice in two days. Hopefully more like us!

Same here. I`ve never seen a movie twice in the cinema. I went to see this one on Friday and Saturday and I' m planning on going again next weekend

Both two weeks away, so the big drop-offs will occur there. I think what's pushing this film is the fantastic word of mouth it's getting. People are seeing it and then saying - "hey that Star Trek film - it didn't suck! go see it!"

I find it strange that people have such low standards. Why are people so desperate for Star Trek all of a sudden?!

When I used to pay close attention to Trek box office - the 1980s - my vague recollection is that opening Saturdays were the biggest day of the week for movies in general. Is it actually usually Friday?

Thanks for the numbers; it's what I came in here for this morning. Keep it up! :)

I'm hoping the show will have good legs and people go see it next week, too.

Re: Star Trek makes US$26 million on Saturday

Deadline Hollywood, who got the Friday numbers right, say Star Trek made US$26mil on Saturday, an increase of 9% over Friday, bringing the weekend total now to US$57mil with Sunday to go!

Sources tell me that Paramount's Star Trek did $26M Saturday. That's 9% more than the J.J. Abrams reboot made on Friday, which is a surprise and demonstrates that the pic is widening well beyond its rabid fanbase of Trekkies. I hear the studio is now confident the 3 1/2-weekend total on 3,849 theaters will reach $75M (which includes Thursday night's $7M screenings and Sunday estimate of $18M). The 3-day weekend totals $68M.

My girlfriend and I went to see it on Thursday night for the early show and it was great. The movie was not as crowded as I hoped it would be. We are going back on Sunday.:techman::techman:

Very good news. This new film is exceeding expectations. The word of mouth is going to help it out a lot.

I didn't get a chance to see it last night but I've got tickets for tonight.

I like the classic Star Trek and have no desperate need for nuTrek unlike most fans.

A lot of folks here like the new Trek and have no need for the desperate, pointless bashing of those who don't. Take it to a hate thread, at least.

Huh? That's like asking, "Why the heck are you spending your time at TrekBBS?"

Well, luckily, a lot of us old timers are thrilled with the movie; the fan base wasn't getting any younger or more numerous. Personally, I like to share it with a lot of new fans.

Alot of people support Torture too. That doesn't mean they are free from criticism. If you like nuTrek than my opinion is irrelevant to you.

I'm not talking about criticism...there are plenty of open threads in which intelligent date about many different aspects of the movie is happening...I'm talking about inane, pissy 'I don't like it and it sucks and you're dumb if you like it' type one-liners. If you can't support your dislike with intelligent reason, or at least open-minded politeness, go to a hate thread and spew like a five year old.

Criticism is fine, but when you directly question those who already like the film, you're going beyond your own personal opinion, which is obviously shared by almost no one. We need fans like you even less than "nutrek". Tym..

Word of mouth is good enough that this movie will probably do close to $200 million domestic. Most forecasters are expecting a multiplier around 3 (ie, a final domestic gross around 3x the opening weekend).

The studio likely would have been happy with anything between $50 and $60 million, based on what we've been hearing from there the past week, so I think there's little reason to worry.
