Star Trek XII New Information Thread

Sanji Himura

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
This thread is to discuss new information about Star Trek XII(or is it 2?). I will compile all of the news reports from NON-TREK sites on the opening post.

Note: I know that it is way to early for details, but it is better to be prepared.

From the link^

Lindelof will work alongside Star Trek scribes Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, who informed TrekMovie last week that they “have a story, and the next phase is to get together and try to destroy it,” as they want to be sure it “stands scrutiny.”

Either they didn't do this with Trek XI or they really suck at tearing their own work apart. LOL

Actually, aside from the unfortunate scaling issues with the Enterprise and the Mayflower, most of the film holds up to scrutiny.

Or if you take the inconsistencies of previous canon into account.

The thing about this film is that it pretty much makes perfect sense if you just stare at it hard enough.

Please explain...
Look at any of several threads from the last year or more which deal with the size of the Enterprise and you'll find the scaling issues hashed out at great length and in far more detail than most people would ever want to know. This thread is for information about the next movie (however little may be known about it at this juncture) and I think it should stay that way.

Its been my observation, many of the "errors" aren't errors at all, just people looking for things to rip on. which they would have let pass had GR himself worked on this project.

Most of what people think are plotholes come down to "Its The Red Matter Stupid!" and when they realize that everything fits together snuggly.

*Which is to say, every action in the film grows out of Spock-Prime's actions or lack there of, even the elements that we don't see that much of.

I think it would be a better idea to just close this thread until more information surfaces about Trek XII. Right now there is little to no facts about the next movie and I don't want to turn this thread to turn into speculation, gossip or a Trek XI hatefest.

Sanji Himura,

I think your thread idea is a good one. Many of us are eager for news about the sequel, and it'd be nice to have one thread to compile all information. Here's hoping we get some soon!

since this is a all encompassing thread i'll crosspost this here:
hollywood.com is reporting Trek XII will be in 3-D.
via 3dguy.tv

No detail as of if it will be shot in stereoscopic 3-D but i assume so.

The first draft of the script was finished well before the Writers Strike was even going to be a sure thing.
.
I believe they were already or just about to be, filming when the strike began.

So there was plenty of time for them to ... Destroy it... by then.

It appears... Not so much.:guffaw:

I kinda thought that was a given at this point...

I just think it's funny that THIS time they are indicating up-front, that They are being more diligent.

You're assuming alot about their process and how they go about it.

You might think there was alot of time to go about destroying it but you can't really speak to their writing habits. Fans I notice do this sort of thing alot: "Hey, I can do that... its so simple why didn't they?"

Not knowing how they tackle a project or how many other projects they have going on at any given time I wouldn't make such assumptions.

Respectfully disagree.

I think the "more" is not a necessary implication. The story for the first one worked just fine in Trek terms, both satisfying most folks who actually care about Trek and its sloppy continuity while entertaining an enormous number of people who just want to get their money's worth for the price of a ticket. If they do as well next time, they've done well.

I know, I know - there are fans who care about Montalban's "I never forget a face..." line to the extent of explaining it. I noticed the inconsistency the night it premiered...and laughed.
