News Star Trek Voyager Documentary

It doesn't sound as though McClugage said anything that would reflect unfavorably upon him, then. The SiskoHairGate issue was already well-established.
It did, and people, including in these forums, commented on the implicit racism of his statement and the implications of how Brooks was styled.

BTW, it was important enough for Behr to get his viewpoint that he was interviewed in his home, not the set where secondary interviews were done.

From what I remember they did most of the filming in the summer of 2021, with additional filming in 2022. Last October they said the film was 'complete' and the only thing that was left to were the blu-ray extras. So yeah, these last-minute augmentations seem weird to me. It's almost as if some actors were not entirely happy with their interviews. Apart from that one comment on Indiegogo there is no mention of augmentations on their other channels.
If anyone saw the premiere, was there anything contentious that a cast member might want to rephrase?

Ahhh, thanks for clarifying!

It sounds as though the issue, then, was less the historical fact of the matter than McClugage's phrasing when he described it?

Not to say the underying issue itself isn't problematic, but I'm referring specifically to what stood out on the documentary.

People have obviously speculated the reason why he was not aloud facial hair was Brooks' race (which Colm Meaney did in the doc), but McCluggage's interview put it a particularly succinct way. And it's not like McCluggage is a nobody, even if we don't think of him as a household name, and he would still have enough pull to force changes if he looked bad despite no longer being the Paramount head.

Now, I don't want to take up more Voyager discussion with DS9 discussion. I'm just trying to find some perspective why Dave Zappone would allow new interviews to be done after a completed version of the documentary has already been made. I could speculate, based on Fifty Year Mission, that some people in the cast did not like how they looked when the question of how Jeri Ryan was treated on the set came up. I can't think of anything else that might spark controversy.

That both seems the most likely explanation to me and kind of bothersome. I'd rather see people express unpleasant attitudes that reflect who they really are and what they really believe, than see sanitized 'We're all one big happy family!' interviews. Indeed, I would say the latter would be doing a disservice to their fans.

It has to be something like that. You don't just re-cut an already finished film just because some interviewees had some extra thoughts to add.

If it turns out that's the case, I'd almost want my money back. No communication for the backers, then suddenly all we get is a de-fanged version of the actual documentary only select people at the theatrical premieres and conventions have gotten to see.

As I said upthread, it would affirm my ironic concerns that much as in my opinion VOY failed to live up to DS9, so this documentary would fail to live up to WWLB.

But, I shall hold out hope that our concerns are baseless. Still, why anyone would feel the need to disclose that the reviews are being 'augmented' is troubling.

Some of y'all seem to be jumping to a conclusion and then acting like it's a fact.

We don't know the new interviews will be to "soften" anything, or erase a previously stated but later regretted opinion. Sure, they might be for that, but with so little information it seems like an overreaction to assume it is so.

From the few reviews I've seen of the "completed" movie, it's not exactly hard-hitting journalism to begin with.

If actors want to respond or expand on their interviews in some way, I say let them - as special features on the blu ray/dvd, and maybe it delays the release of the physical media. But once you call a project done, and premier it, it's done. That's the movie. Don't recut and alter what you already said was done. Assuming of course that this is what's being done.. and that's a huge assumption.

TBF, WWLB was also somewhat redone after the premiere...but in that case, my understanding was that a lot of the redoing was adding in more HD footage, and I'm all for that. I don't recall any mention of additional interview work, nor do I recall seeing any (I attended the NYC premiere), but I can't rule it out.

@DonIago Was there anything said in that cut that would warrant a redo?
As evidenced above, some people feel that some of the interviewees came off less than positively. But again, AFAIK, the only thing that was 'redone' was adding or updating HD footage. There may have been additional other material added, but I don't personally recall anything to that effect.

I remember Alaimo coming across as a bit sour but not much more than that. And the thing with Sisko's hair of course. But it's been years since I saw it. Will give it a rewatch one of these days.

It's all speculation at this point, but it is weird. Or maybe it's just scope creep. If only they were a little bit better at communicating with their backers.

Do you remember if Auberjonois occupied the last spot before the credits, where he talks about his legacy?

I don't recall the Brooks hair thing being a revelation - it was just what we all knew was the case, and I'm sure something to the same effect was in the DS9 Companion.
