Star Trek Vegas Convention 2011

Maybe!
I'm 18, and I'll be walking around the convention with my girlfriend (who won't be in costume) so if you see us, say hi!
This is the first time I'll actually be around other trekkies!

^^^On Saturday my 13 year old son will be in full TWOK uniform and I'll be sporting a TOS green captain's wrap-around. We'll keep our eyes out for ya'!

I'll be there early tomorrow! If you see a guy and gal in desert robes please feel free to say hello!

^I'm on the look out for that great robe , will say hi if I spot you for sure,

I'm checked in and registered. Already grabbed a t-shirt in the vendor room, seen a few great costumes already. Very excited this is gonna be fun )

We got into town this morning but don't have tickets for today - only tomorrow through Sunday. We'll probably be there in time to see Walter Koenig tomorrow morning.

Had a great first day !

-Had a chance to see Garrett Wang on stage, as well as Dominic Keating with Connor Trinneer . All we entertaining.

-Caught my first episode of TAS ever, yay for tribbles.

-Saw more fantastic costumes already then I expected to see all convention. Stand outs so far are the really tall Vulcan ,the tribble lady with the tribble predator, the father/daughter Klingons, Data as Sherlock Holmes pushing a borgified tandem stroller with two kids in uniforms, and of course the lovely Andorian ladies ;) Still keeping an eye out for the desert robe :D

-I went to an auction as well, some great items up for sale, mostly selling well out of my price range, but still exciting to be a part of.

Since this is my first convention, I had another question for the more experienced, I saw a sign that said its ok to take photos for personal use, but not for 'public dissemination' does that mean I can't share them here? that would be a shame as I would love to share some with anyone who could not make it, but I also want to make sure I follow the rules.

There was also something about being able to purchase the original .jpeg of the photo ops that I will be getting, if I do that, do I fully own the image? would I be allowed to share that on a board like this? I think I'll ask about that if/when I purchase the .jpeg.

I hope everyone else is having as much as I am,
Cheers,
Kytee

I would not worry about posting pictures you take. I think they are more concerned about commercial aspects and documentaries. Forum news and pictures about the events is great advertising for Creationent and they know that. What you don't want to do is try recording video or audio of the actors, especially while on stage.

Our first day was great, too. Won't take up space with details here as they are in my blog (linked in my sig below) but I will agree with Kytee that the costumes were terrific. We'll be donning ours tomorrow.

Looked for the desert robes too and didn't spot them. Hope to bump into some of you.

Peace and long life!

People have posted their photo ops online. You paid for the picture, it's yours.

Thanks for the tips, once I have the .jpegs, I'll see about sharing them. Don't have much time right now, wanted to say yesterday was fantastic as well, costume that pops out was the gentleman who was Sherlock Holmes Data on thrusday came back as Data from First Contact ( Half white/Half flesh face ) can't wait to see what he does today

Cheers,
Kytee

At the world record attempt, we ran into iamtosk and got a look at the awesome desert robes firsthand. Very cool indeed and nice to meet this terrific young fan.

I tried to embed the pic here but had horrible results. You can see it at my blog though. Just follow the link in my signature below.

It was very nice to meet you as well. The convention was incredible. It's so much fun to be around so many fans. You can spark up a conversation with ANYONE! I am already looking forward to next year. The only question is... what costume will I wear?!?

*I've been to the Vegas convention every year since 2002, plus other Star Trek and general Sci-Fi conventions in Vancouver BC, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City (I think around*50 or so in total since my first one in 1992). Here are my suggestions--
*
* Talk to people in line around you. I have met people from all over the US and from all parts of the world, including Japan, England, Scotland, Germany, Australia, Chile, Canada, Spain, Peru... A big part of the fun of the convention for me is just talking with other fans, and I see many of them again each year. If you have business cards, or just make some up on your home computer, it makes it easy to trade email addresses or Facebook information.
*
* Bring some snacks. There is food available in the hotel in a number of restaurants and quick service areas, but if you throw a few granola bars, fruit, beef jerky, *or whatever you like to munch on into a backpack, you can save money for things from the dealer's room*In the past, the previous*hotel had*provided large jugs of ice water and plastic cups in the actual convention hall, in the dealer's room, and outside the convention hall, so you don't have to worry about bringing bottled water unless you really want to.
*
* Bring extra batteries and memory cards (or film) for your camera. Besides getting shots of the stars while they are on stage, you'll see a lot of folks in some cool costumes. Most of them don't mind at all if you take a photo with them.
*
* Dress up if you can-- it just adds to the experience. I'd say that at the Las Vegas convention, about 20% of the attendees wear a costume of some sort, or at least a uniform top with jeans. About another 20% wear a Star Trek t-shirt or baseball cap with regular casual clothes, and then the rest are mostly in shorts, jeans, and T-shirts. I like to bring a different costume for every day and really go all out. In the past, I've dressed like a Klingon, an Andorian, Captain Kirk, *Mr. Data, Lore,*and a Borg. This year, I'll have some new costumes including Data as Sherlock Holmes, Data transformed 1/3 human by the Borg Queen, and KIROK.
*
* Despite being in Las Vegas in August, the actual convention hall tends to be on the chilly side because of the air conditioning. If you get cold easily, you might want to bring a sweater or a long-sleeve shirt.
*
* The Dealer's Room is large and has a nice variety of things, from actual screen-used costumes and props (these can get pricey) to models, toys, patches, fan-made uniforms, action figures, videos, books, art, t-shirts, 8X10 photos, posters, CDs, etc., and not all from just Star Trek. There is merchandise from Star Wars, the X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, etc. Most of the vendors are equiped to take credit cards, but having cash on hand doesn't hurt.
*
* I am not really into autographs or photo ops, but the lines for really popular stars can be REALLY long (sometimes over an hour). Photo ops and autoraphs can sell out quickly, so if there is someone you would really like to get, buy your ticket for them sooner rather than later.
*
* There are other supporting actors in the dealer's room, and generally you just walk up to their table if you would like a photo or an autograph. The Creation website has the price list for each person appearing.

CONGRATULATIONS to Eric for winning FIRST PLACE in the Costume Contest! Job well done! I was the tribble lady and the borg cube.

Great convention, but a little tiring walking all the halls. Should have borrowed that electric wheelchair from the start. Can't wait to see who's on next year's list and time to save up for next year. Missed out Sunday due to a bloody nose. :(

Will post a log as soon as I edit some photos. Some photos didn't turn out that good. :(

If you're up for meeting someone specific, I've always referred to this site:

http://startrekappearances.blogspot.com/

It lists a million actors from Trek and what upcoming conventions they will be attending.

Looks like Trinneer has 2 upcoming appearances, first in Chicago and then a cruise leaving from San Diego after that (hey, your neck of the woods!).

There are links to the cons as well.
