Star Trek Vegas Convention 2011

I'm going to attempt to make this costume this week:

Just got the fabric!

Wow, your going to sew it up by yourself? thats cool. Is that what you do for a living ? tailoring? or are you just gifted at it as a hobby? I wish I had skills like that )

Im just watching my way through my DS9 collection leading up to the convention, I caught this episode Sunday and was thinking these are unique costumes for sure,

Hi,

I'm not able to attend the show this year and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me get a few autographs? Please shoot me an e-mail at vivonasATgmail.com if you can help.

Thanks so much!

I would, but I've severely over-extended myself for this convention. I'm afraid I went a little overboard in getting autographs and photo-ops, I'm going to be running around like crazy this year! Really sorry!

Oh, I could have told you not to do that. I did the same thing the first time I went to Creation Vegas in 2008. I was exhausted every single night.

Maybe you could check with stvivona to see if you have some overlap on autographs? I helped him out last year but I'm not going this year.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone attending this year might be able to help me get some autographs. I wish I could go but it's not in the cards. I'd be eternally grateful!

It's just a hobby for me. I have a friend who is pretty good at that sort of thing and I probably couldn't do it without her.

We're about 1/2 way though making them. Hopefully we don't run out of time. Going to put in a few more hours tonight.

Also, very fitting for a Trek convention being held in a city in the middle of the desert!

My thoughts exactly!

Only six more days to go. See you there, everyone.

anyone gonna be in the guiness world record attempt? from the tentative schedule posted on the site, it looks like it will overlap with Leonard Nimoy's appearance on stage.

how long do question time usually take and how come the stars only come out for half an hour at most?

*I've been to the Vegas convention every year since 2002, plus other Star Trek and general Sci-Fi conventions in Vancouver BC, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City (I think around*50 or so in total since my first one in 1992). Here are my suggestions--
*
* Talk to people in line around you. I have met people from all over the US and from all parts of the world, including Japan, England, Scotland, Germany, Australia, Chile, Canada, Spain, Peru... A big part of the fun of the convention for me is just talking with other fans, and I see many of them again each year. If you have business cards, or just make some up on your home computer, it makes it easy to trade email addresses or Facebook information.
*
* Bring some snacks. There is food available in the hotel in a number of restaurants and quick service areas, but if you throw a few granola bars, fruit, beef jerky, *or whatever you like to munch on into a backpack, you can save money for things from the dealer's room*In the past, the previous*hotel had*provided large jugs of ice water and plastic cups in the actual convention hall, in the dealer's room, and outside the convention hall, so you don't have to worry about bringing bottled water unless you really want to.
*
* Bring extra batteries and memory cards (or film) for your camera. Besides getting shots of the stars while they are on stage, you'll see a lot of folks in some cool costumes. Most of them don't mind at all if you take a photo with them.
*
* Dress up if you can-- it just adds to the experience. I'd say that at the Las Vegas convention, about 20% of the attendees wear a costume of some sort, or at least a uniform top with jeans. About another 20% wear a Star Trek t-shirt or baseball cap with regular casual clothes, and then the rest are mostly in shorts, jeans, and T-shirts. I like to bring a different costume for every day and really go all out. In the past, I've dressed like a Klingon, an Andorian, Captain Kirk, *Mr. Data, Lore,*and a Borg. This year, I'll have some new costumes including Data as Sherlock Holmes, Data transformed 1/3 human by the Borg Queen, and KIROK.
*
* Despite being in Las Vegas in August, the actual convention hall tends to be on the chilly side because of the air conditioning. If you get cold easily, you might want to bring a sweater or a long-sleeve shirt.
*
* The Dealer's Room is large and has a nice variety of things, from actual screen-used costumes and props (these can get pricey) to models, toys, patches, fan-made uniforms, action figures, videos, books, art, t-shirts, 8X10 photos, posters, CDs, etc., and not all from just Star Trek. There is merchandise from Star Wars, the X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, etc. Most of the vendors are equiped to take credit cards, but having cash on hand doesn't hurt.
*
* I am not really into autographs or photo ops, but the lines for really popular stars can be REALLY long (sometimes over an hour). Photo ops and autoraphs can sell out quickly, so if there is someone you would really like to get, buy your ticket for them sooner rather than later.
*
* There are other supporting actors in the dealer's room, and generally you just walk up to their table if you would like a photo or an autograph. The Creation website has the price list for each person appearing.

Did anyone note that the Sunday schedule was posted for less than a day and removed with the message that it would be reposted by Tuesday, 8/9? I wonder if one of the headliners are unable to attend or if another major guest is being added?

I'll be attending the convention on Sunday, to get Patrick Stewart's autograph!

I just found this forum on google, I was searching for other people that might be attending the convention! I live in Vegas, but I don't know a single person other than myself that's attending.

I'm just going in a red TNG command shirt, but that robe looks really well made, good work!

EDIT: Sidenote, this is my first convention!

:klingon: BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: THE ORIGINAL KAHLESS, THE UNFORGETTABLE, aka Robert Herron, from the original series episode, "The Savage Curtain" will be appearing at the Convention on Saturday and Sunday in the vendors room.

This will be a rare opportunity to meet Robert, as this is his first appearance in over ten years at a Star Trek Convention.

Due to late registration, Robert is not listed on the Creation website as of yet.

Be sure to stop by his table and exchange greetings with one of our favorite Klingons. :klingon:

This will be my first one in over 15 years. I am bringing along my son and we'll both be in costume (at least on Saturday anyway). Maybe we'll bump into you.
