Star Trek: The Fringe

The series is semi planet based, a colony called Borana has recently been set up and developed over the past 5 years on the outskirts/fringe of explored space. This colony is quite far though from any possible reinforcements and has been issued with it's very own Starship for defence and exploration purposes aswell as an orbital resupply station. The series begins with an intro to a few of the major characters... Admiral Lana Bennett who has been transferred and put in charge of Starfleet operations on the planet, she regularly has run ins with the colonys prime minister/leader Daniel Dixon. The ship deployed to the planet is the USS Michigan and is captained by Roger Merrick and takes orders direct from Admiral Lana Bennett.

A lot of the time the series is based at the Starfleet Base on the planet but regularly the series is also ship based with the ship being sent out on exploration missions etc and regularly things go wrong, we also get a look in at the planets parliament building and get to see how things are run from there.

We get to see the interaction between Starfleet and the government of the colony planet quite a lot.

A new enemy is discovered deep in unexplored space, far different from anything encountered before on Trek. We get to see the reaction of this news from the populace of the colony, from the planets government leaders and Starfleet, Starfleet wants more recon data but the prime minister is reluctant incase the new enemy finds out the location of Borana.

I could go on but you get the picture i'm sure.

So what do you think to my idea?

Good start...
A new enemy is discovered deep in unexplored space, far different from anything encountered before on Trek.

How are they "far different"? The key to this idea working is delivering on this promise.

I'm working on it. :D

EDIT: I was thinking about how all aliens in trek tend to be of the same size, I was thinking maybe having an enemy of giants? possibly human like or maybe Reptilian or Amphibian.
If you read ancient mythology you always hear about giants, and even the Bible has Goliath so I thought it might be interesting having an alien race of giants as an enemy. ;) These giants also have capabilities like telekinesis. They view all the races smaller in stature as inferior and use them as slaves in their mines and as cattle to feed their ever increasing population. Obviously it would all be CGI.
I just came across this picture, maybe something like this but they're giants.

Another idea seperate to this one would be a race of giant spiders. They fly around in ships made from their webs.
They could look similar to normal spiders but are giant and have some arms and hands. :vulcan:

Ok, I suppose they dont HAVE to be giant spiders. ;) Imagine meeting a race of these bad boys, each as big as a human. ARGH! that's enough to have the viewing public on the edges of their seats.
Obviously the way it would work is that these spiders are so different from humanoids that it would be impossible for starfleet to communicate with them and these spiders having a spider nature actually go around eating humanoids as food, often wrapping them in webs to eat later.

Humanoids with multiple apendages & they're almost exactly like the aliens from "Predator" with large jaws thatr extend out & wear technology-based masks & hunt in nomadic groups. They growl & click to speak.

Their ridges are on some other part of their body, not the forehead.

You resurrected a thread that's been dead for an entire month (infact EXACTLY a month) just to post that gem?
