I don't know. I liked the whole dynamic between Jurati and the Borg Queen. (Jurati was probably my favorite of PICARD'S original characters since she was such a hot mess and oh so relatable.)

Plus, the callbacks to Gary Seven made my nerdy heart sing.
Well the Aliens with the 'Hidden World' (per TOS S2 Assignment Earth) turning out to be Traveler Wesley Crusher and a motley band of Temu Timelords rubbed me the wrong way. There's also the fact that Gary 7's Teleporter was still run by devices on both ends in TOS (the Vault in his Office; and the Hanger at Cape Canaveral); yet in PICARD S2 foggy purple portals popped in and out of thin air as needed.

What can I say? It was the first time Gary Seven and Co. had been referenced onscreen since I was eight.

I had been waiting 54 years for Trek to remember that episode, so I wasn't inclined to nitpick.

Sorry, can't be bothered searching through 51 pages on this thread but did all (!?) the Scottish posters here get the "Eleven!!" reference when Scotty got stuck in the elevator. It's genuinely one of the most iconic Scottish comedy sketches ever. For those (I'm guessing that's most of you) who have never seen it, here's a link to the original. Well done SNW I can almost now forgive you for the puppet episode.

This was TNG-Disaster x1000. A lot more gory and a lot more intense as well.

2 episodes in a row where someone was basically chopped in half and survived.

In reality, it's Christine who was the miracle worker, but Scotty is moving in that direction. They're really setting him up now.

Like Pike from TOS, we didn't get much on Boyce before this, but he's an a-hole.

I'm kinda pissed that with these 10 episode seasons, that they aren't 6 month periods and we should be getting 10 seasons to take us to the TOS era.

I'll be generous with a 9, since it did weave together several subplots pretty well in the fight against a common foe--a slipstream wormhole. Devices like the chronometer and split screen didn't really add anything to the story, but then again, didn't really detract from it in any meaningful way. Very well produced and directed, solid FX throughout. Boyce makes his debut and is exactly as you would think he is. I was wondering why Spock didn't do the gravity shutdown instead of Una, but I suppose they had to save him for his later data recovery task. Although I can do without Pelia as a character, her interactions with Scotty were bearable, although I liked the interplay between Scotty and that Vulcan better. Solid character work between M'Benga and Chapel, although it might've played out a bit long given all the other disasters taking place. And the ending seemed a bit abrupt to me, but that's a very minor nitpick.

I liked the split-screen thing because I thought it added some style and flair to the proceedings.

I've never seen "24" so I didn't realize that was supposed to be some sort of homage to that show. I was thinking more in terms of Brian DePalma movies from the 1970s . . .

Watching this now. After the last one good to see an actual watchable, serious Trek episode.

It's basically TNG's Disaster. But that's okay, reusing plot concepts has had positive results in the past, and they made it work. I just wish they hadn't so blatantly copied elements from 24. So long after the show ended it's not even cool anymore, but the real time counter with the split screens, they just copied it too directly. Especially given the pattern, first Hangover now this. Are they writing an original drama or are they doing a genre fandom tour?

(And the next one from what I've seen is just Dramatis Personae but from a more soap opera angle, right?)

Very good episode, but the 24 references added nothing.

TAS has Klingons wearing pink. Why can't you just headcanon April's skin color in TAS as a coloring error?
Trekkies need to get their eyes checked. They can't tell pinks from purples.

Pink-ish (more orchid than pink, really), but close enough.

Not Pinks

The Klingons in that episode were wearing purplish-charcoal shirts with what look like wisteria (violet/pastel purple color) vests.

If the Klingons were an analogue for the Mongols/Genghis's hordes, what were the Romulans?
The Romulans, culturally, were Romans right out of Cecil B. DeMille's old film epics, grafted onto a story about a WW II destroyer and a German submarine.
In "Balance of Terror" they were the Kriegsmarine in Roman-esque space drag.

Yes, they were a WWII submarine crew - but their cultural references were cliche Roman: centurions, praetor, personal names like "Decius" and, of course, "Romulus" itself.

In fact, the TAS Klingon uniforms sort of resemble the color of Klingon blood in TUC. Coincidental, but a happy coincidence.
