I've been trying to determine exactly which (or whose) CG models were used for the Eaglemoss models. Here's some things I noticed about the Galaxy and Nebula class ships:
Issue 1 / Special 20 / XL2 / Gold XL 1:
Galaxy class. Most of the magazine renders show the
DS9 CG model. The saucer separation pictures on the other hand are of the
ENT CG model, and the shape of the actual die-cast models also seems to be based on this. Obviously the shuttlebays are the same size, so one half of the model may have been mirrored at some point. The placement of the escape pods on the underside of the saucer also isn't entirely accurate.
Issue 23 / XL 26:
Nebula class. The
VOY CG model (kitbash of DS9 CG Galaxy-class model parts) is used for the magazine renders, for the Nebula-specific parts of the die-cast models, and for the nacelles of the XL model. The saucer and nacelles of the regular die-cast model still seem to be based on the ENT Galaxy model, once again with inaccurate escape pods on the underside. The saucer of the XL model may also still be based on the ENT Galaxy model, but the escape pods were redone and are now accurate, except for a single missing one on the underside.
Issue 112:
Nebula class (oval pod). A new CG model that's based on the VOY CG model is used for the magazine renders and for the Nebula-specific parts of the die-cast model. The saucer and nacelles of the die-cast model still seem to be based on the ENT Galaxy model with the inaccurate escape pods on the underside.
Issue 156:
Proto-Nebula class. Renders and die-cast model use a new CG model that may be based on
Ed Giddings' Galaxy class model (at least it looks more similar to it than to the DS9 Galaxy, ENT Galaxy, or VOY Nebula).
Bonus 0 / Bonus 17 / XL 20:
Future Enterprise D. The magazine renders show a new CG model that's definitely based on Ed Giddings' Galaxy-class model. The die-cast models still seem to be based mostly on the ENT Galaxy model with inaccurate escape pods, except for the new attachment parts. Interestingly, these new parts differ significantly between the regular and XL model.
??? :
Restored Enterprise D. Well, for PIC season 1 and season 3 they used modified versions of
Ed Giddings' model, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Fanhome were to re-use the existing molds of the Eaglemoss XL Enterprise D.
