Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Starfleet pulls them apart, finishes construction, and names them both Yeager (USS Yeager & Chuck Yeager) but with new registries? Too bad, I love that frankenship.
They would probably ditch/recycle the Maquis raider hull in such a scenario, as there’s still another Yeager (Saber class) in service and you wouldn’t want a third one.

I was really looking forward the XL Enterprise-A. I guess we have to wait until people have it in their hands, but it doesn't look pretty. The nacelles and engineering hull look good, but the saucer is all kinds of wrong.

Someone over at StarshipModeler forum contacted Eaglemoss about this and they gave a hopeful response:
I called Eaglemoss and explained all the flaws seen in the XL Ent-A model as it was displayed to us. The girl on the phone assured me that if it is that far off then it will be further refined before actually being released..... We shall have to see.
FWIW...

Got the Freedom class USS Firebrand and Hirogen Holoship yesterday. My wife's observation in regards to the Firebrand- "What is that thing? It looks like a lollipop."
I got mine too, I really like the Firebrand for its FJ Tech Manual vibe

My inaugural Shenzhou should arrive sometime in the next few days according to the e-mail. Looking forward to the Discovery next!

For others who have had subscriptions in the past, should I expect them to ship the next issue, Discovery, sometime in May? (or given some of the stories I've heard, I'm wondering if I will ever get the Discovery.... or multiples lol.

They usually ship a month apart so around this time in May would be your best guess. They hurried to get issues 1 & 2 out though so we’re all still waiting on issue 3. No confirmed ETA on it yet.

I know you're not the person who made the call, but... what were they expecting? When you call a company like Eaglemoss you're not gonna be getting through to the actual model makers or designers, or the CEO of the company or something. You're getting through to a regular Joe who just works in customer service. And not customer service just for the Trek ships but for the tonnes of other stuff Eaglemoss. So a girl on the phone ain't gonna know jack shit, and was fairly obviously just saying that to shut him up and get him off the phone so she can deal with the tonne of people already on hold (which is usually a lot the amount of time you have to wait when you call them up)
So, haha, yeah.... I just imagine her listening to him waffling on and about how the saucer should be curved more and her having no idea what he's talking about. "Oh right, yeah, yeah..."

Anyway, picked up #122 the USS Yeager from the shop today :techman: Said it before, but it's this stage of the collection that it's just so cool to have a model in your hand of a ship like this, ones that have never been done before and ones you never thought even would be.

Was thinking that myself, actually. Plus, Eaglemoss' history of customer service has always been sadly lacking so, yeah, it was most likely a blow-off.

The best thing to do, really, is to put up a tweet on Ben's feed and give him a heads' up on it, considering he's in charge of all model R&D. He's the one who needs to know that the entire primary hull basically needs to be re-tooled. I don't have a Twitter account (nor do I ever plan to), but if I did, I'd do it myself. I guess the best we can hope for is just sit and wait and see what the final production run is going to look like.

^ Yeah but he hardly ever posts anymore. Plus all the previous big errors this series has done- stand out ones include the Enterprise-C and the Negh'Var (latter came straight after the former actually), the really OTT misaligned windows on the XL ships, the obvious missing decals on things like USS Relativity, etc etc) have never been addressed by Ben or anyone else at Eaglemoss IIRC. I could be wrong but I'm sure he's never once mentioned, commented, or most importantly apologised, about things like that.

I suspect by the time it's got to this stage it's too late to fix without incurring prohibitous costs. You just have to take it or leave it.

At the price point they are asking for the XLs, this shouldn't be an issue. They shouldn't have basic errors like the bridge module on the Enterprise-A.

We also have the very recent Beyond Enterprise phaser bank error as well.

I concur that it’s probably too late to change things at this point. I guess if they rerelease it as the non-A, we’ll have a decent model of an earlier stage TMP Enterprise.

we've touched on this before, but what are you folks thinking and feeling about the future of the collection? as the regular collection dives deeper and deeper into obscurity and branches into larger, more detailed, more expensive models, i'm finding my own interests diverted.

i've found myself paring back my standard size models to the "essentials" and my interest turning more towards the discovery line, the occasional XL, kelvin timeline specials, and now the battlestar line.

do we think this thing is moving into a new phase? are you folks as enthusiastic about the frankenfleet as you were the sector 001 fleet? or are we at a stage of diminishing returns?

question for uk subscribers
on the retailers shelves magazine and model in clear plastic cover
when you get it through post same plastic cover? (this would get ripped apart no ?) or is it sent to you in jiffy bag/box?

I certainly plan to ride this wave all the way to the beach. Then again, I'm probably not a good one to ask. It's been many years since I've found a collection like this worthy of getting every single piece that's available. Back in the 90's I developed my collector's OCD into a finely-tuned machine. Sadly, when the dot-com bubble burst I had to throttle back my interests and it was painful. I almost felt like a recovering addict, and I've had to be very careful with what lines I pursue since that time. This line, however, is definitely worth my time to acquire every single thing. I've always been enamored with starship design in general, hence the existence of the SSDB, so this collection definitely attacks me at multiple vulnerability surfaces. At least I know those vulnerabilities exist and knowing is half the battle.

i will keep this in mind when reading your replies.

i've recently been wondering about the psychology behind obsessively collecting objects that posses the same basic (starship) shape. that being said, i just discovered there's a pre-built model of the NSEA protector on the market, so... yolo?

The model is supplied in a cardboard box that contains a vacuum-formed clear base to hold the model and stand components under a clear top cover - for example:

The magazine is provided separately within the overall postal container and is not wrapped.
