Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

stared at it too long this weekend though and now all i see is the face of a parrot looking up at me.
Dammit, now that's all I can see!

I honestly have to wonder if that was intentional, knowing that the details of the original model would never been seen up-close in the final film, or if it was just a placement accident of the shape primitives.

well the magazine says they were going for the forlorn parrot look. jk

There seems to be a growing groundswell of negative 3-stars-and-below reviews in that survey site over Eaglemoss, the vast majority of which are citing Pennsylvania as the main weakness in their chain. I REALLY hope someone's listening in their front office and taking steps to rectify the issues there before it starts hurting the line. The only thing holding it together is the fantastic quality of Ben's team's work. That may not be enough if too many people decide to jump ship entirely, which will hurt their R&D budget for new designs and, worse, scuttle the BSG project coming up next year.

It also appears that their customer service rep "Helen" there is only responding to positive reviews now and ignoring the negative ones. :shifty:

i almost didn't buy it for that reason, it left almost no impression on me. it was my recent fascination with repainting and modding the eaglemoss ships that led me to grab it off ebay.

What else have you modified/modded?
Do you use standard model paint, like for Revell/Moebius/Polar Lights?

I made a Yeager once, from a Voyager and Val Jean, but it's saucer is slightly skewed.

I received an email this morning that I'm scheduled to be billed for the Swarm ship around 8/26. If it's correct my specials might be back on track.

It's the standard special email with one exception. At the very bottom, where I almost missed it is a line that says you are receiving this email because you are subscribed to the Spock's Jellyfish special. That's the 1st one that didn't ship correctly.

Now I'm wondering if my conversation with the Eaglemoss rep at STLV fixed it or it's just coincidence.

Did you ever get the Franklin? I'm still waiting for that one. Didn't get any email, either. I'm probably on their black list now.

yeah just standard model paint, but i also have used pencil, charcoal, and marker.
marker came in handy with the swarm ship to add the blue engine details which weren't even sculpted on the model as it was:

i've made minor changes to a ton of my ships, but the most significant ones (other than the swarm ship and franklin above) were the jellyfish:
20819370_10100997433387649_1337190629156216527_o.jpg

which i added a lot of highlights and weathering to. i also painted some of the scales lighter shades of green, but they don't really show up in the photo.

also the kelvin:

20901309_10100997432893639_1266672353618165233_o.jpg

which i added more damage and weathering to, used bondo to bridge the gap between the saucer and the dorsal connecting neck portion and 3D printed a new deflector dish and bussard collector for. that was tricky because i had to model those components in rhino and hope the little details wouldn't be lost once it was all printed.

let's see your yeager. err that sounds wrong.

Does anyone know when the K7 special will be in UK shops?
I ask because the release date on the website says 28th August which is a Monday, whereas the models are always released in shops on Thursdays. And I remember with the Franklin and Swarm Ship they were available in shops the same day as a regular issue, and a bit before their release dates on the website.
#105 the Smugglers Ship is out in shops tomorrow so I'm wondering if K7 will be out too perhaps? If I get chance I'll have a look in WHSmith tomorrow

Not News (OLDS?), but Doug Drexler's Ships of the Line: Active Duty video contains animations of some of the ships we've got, and 2 that are still upcoming: USS Enterprise XCV-330, and Probert's original Ambassador class.

So, just signed up for the XL subscription series because it's considerably cheaper than buying them individually from the main site and wanted to start it with the 1701-E, as I already have the D. Then, promptly after placing the order, they sent me an email saying that they were going to be sending me the D in a couple weeks. Called them up to try to skip the D and move it to the E...and they couldn't do it. Too soon, they said. So now, I need to wait until I get closer to the shipping date and cancel the D before they ship the order. They said that they will "push this issue up to corporate", a familiar refrain which I am sure will never happen.

For anyone who wants to sign up for the XL subs, wait until the E-E becomes available if you already have the E-D. Just not worth the hassle otherwise.

I think I'll add this to my previous review on TrustPilot.

Thanks for the info as I was considering doing the same thing. I guess I'll wait until we're on the NX-01 since I got the E at STLV.

Got my Defiant, Norway, Steamrunner and Nebula ships delivered yesterday afternoon, ordered off of the Eaglemoss website and got the 30% off. Massively disappointed that the magazines at the bottom of the box had the covers creased. Each issue, was like the person who dropped the magazines in wasn't paying attention so each cover was bent back. Two have the corners bent as well. Poor packaging job.

I've never seen the specials in Smiths - but the Manchester got significantly downsized recently. Forbidden Planet always have the specials but the normal releases get snapped up very quickly. I'd love K7, it looks fantastic.

You think that's bad? If they ever get around to making the Miradorn ship (AKA the mercenary ship from "Gambit"), try looking at it from straight up (anyone who has the Micro Machine version knows about this).

Once you see a rotisserie chicken, you can never unsee it. :rommie:
