Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I assume Picard will be part of the Discovery collection. We know from Children of Mars that they use the same ships.

Don’t make me point out how old the Stratofortress is again.
(Still flying in the 2050’s?? It’s a slap in the face to Air Force fans!)

The Enterprise era Tholian ship, I like the clear colored parts they used for the warp engines. I've been most impressed with the Enterprise era ships including the Romulan Bird of Prey (Ent) and the Starfleet Warp Delta. I heard Eaglemoss used cgi assets from the show as a reference.

I never liked how they had a seamline cutting right across the nose of the "Enterprise" Tholian ship.

You're right, for the most part, about the "Enterprise"-era ships, though. I'm still amazed at the tiny, intricate parts on the 22nd Century Klingon BOP.

They've used CGI assets from ENT, DS9, VOY, First Contact, Nemesis and JJTrek. Some of the FC stuff had to be rebuilt because they were too basic, so the miniatures are better looking than the on-screen versions.

But yeah, for whatever reason, the Enterprise stuff is far and away better than the other series. The standard NX-01 might be the single best model they've produced, and it was one of their first.

Speaking of single best model...

Since the regular line is coming to an end what is your top 5 ships of the line :D? (Not your favorite general Star Trek ship but your favorite, or most appreciated, Eaglemoss ST model.)

Mine would go as:
1. NX-01 - Absolutely gorgeous model with great detail.
2. Enterprise-D - I know there are a few nitpicks overall but it looks great.
3. The Merchantman - Again, love the detail and the paint job on this one is lovely.
4. Bajoran Solar Sail - Just such a unique model that I never expected to be made.
5. The Romulan Probe - Not even close to my favorite ST ship but the detail is great on this model.

1. NX-01
2. steamrunner class
3. k’tinga
4. jem'hadar attack ship
5. enterprise-E

The XL Reliant is my top favorite, with the Akira in close second. The detail, coloring and overall accuracy all seem to be the best with those two.

I get them on subscription, so the cost is a bit reduced. The downside is I get the crappy ones too and I have to wait 3-6 months to get what's already been available to everyone else on an individual basis.

Got the Discovery Landing Pod today. That’s a big one. It’s nice but it isn’t very Trek like.

1. USS Defiant (Fun to pick up and just look at)
2. 22nd Century Klingon BoP. (They did such a great job on the tiny, intricate parts!)
3. Jem'Hadar battle cruiser (First model I ever got!)
4. USS Centaur (Same as the Defiant)
5. USS Bonaventure (Even though I got this one very recently, I'm quite taken with it)

In other news, I popped into my local store and rummaged through his "clearance" box of less-popular models. (No "hero" ships in here and certain;y no Fed designs). This time, I took home the 1957 Vulcan ship from "Carbon Creek". As Irishtrekke said in his review, there is sort of a "50's sci-fi" look to it, almost like a "Forbidden Planet" style, along with the traditional Vulcan rust paint scheme.

It's been a few months since I got a Vulcan ship (last one was the T'Pau) and a couple of years since I got one featured on "Enterprise". I think this one came off as a more successful model than either the Suurok or D'Kyr did.

Yeah they went with the model that was already made for the old Fact Files, upscaled to Excelsior specs. I like the more subtle coloring of the newer one and it looks more thought out, but they really should have kept the Miranda-class bridge on there to keep it accurate.

The nacelles are too short and thin as well compared to the saucer, and many of the added surface details are missing. Perhaps the detailed pictures of the studio model were not yet available when Ed Giddings built it.

My Top 5 of the regular line Eaglemoss ships:

1) ECS Fortunate
2) NX-01 Enterprise
3) Klingon Bird of Prey (23rd century)
4) Species 8472 Bioship
5) NX-Alpha

Suprisingly a freighter is in pole position but I really like the design and Eaglemoss did a great job with the color and the tiny details on this model. The metallic painting on many of the Enterprise era Earth ships are a big plus. Those models look less toylike then some of the other ships of the collection and so I put NX-01 and NX-Alpha also in the Top 5 with the Warp-Delta not far behind.

The Klingon Bird of Prey was the first alien ship in the collection and I still think it's a very good representation. (Most models of Klingon ships are nice with maybe the Negh'var as the big exception.) The 8472 Bioship has a terrible stand but the model itself looks great. The texture of the model mimics the organic hull very well.

Further honorable mentions: Enterprise-D, Enterprise-B, Orion Ship (TOS-R), Krenim Warship, Romulan Warbird and the ship of the Borg Queen.
