Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Space Dock looks GREAT! Can't wait for that one. E-C looks pretty nice as well.

I still can't stand the Klingon Disco ships! :klingon:

seeing all the great ships coming, then checking my bank account like

Huh so depending on the registry number the fonts are different. This is interesting to know.
I'm pretty sure they just forgot to update the font on that one, as the Mirror Buran used the same font as everything else in the show.

The USS Europa also used the TOS Hull font in the first trailer it appeared in, but was changed in the final version. So that model is just outdated.

the fonts even vary within classes. the shepard class kerala has a different font registry than the shepard class gagarin.
Probably because you couldn't actually read it in the show.

We do know the Gagarin's text size was increased to be readable.

I know a lot of people of people are rolling their eyes at the release of the Lantree as yet another Reliant variant (and they're not wrong), presumably because Eaglemoss knows Fed ships sell better, but I expect I'll get it anyway. I was curious as to whether it's going to be in the same scale as the Reliant and Bozeman or slightly larger, like the Saratoga. Based on where the stand clips on, I'm leaning towards the former.

One other sidenote, I've always wondered where the name "Lantree" came from. There doesn't seem to be any major location or historical figure with that name. If you google "Lantree", the first two entries is actually the articles from Memory Alpha and the official Trek website. I checked to see the whereabouts of the writers credited for "Unnatural Selection". One of them is no longer with us, and I couldn't find anything on the other. (The episode is his only writing credit, with most of his other IMDb credits being in producing, editing, and sound mixing, none more recent than 2000). The only possible candidate I can find is Honey Lantree, a drummer for the 60's British band the Honeycombs (notable for being one of the few female drummers at the time).

I suppose I could ask the Okudas on Facebook.

IIRC, it was an easy rearrangement of the letters comprising "Reliant" (less the "i" and with an extra "e") instead of printing all new ones for an entirely new name. There's probably an article on it at Ex Astra, but I think that had a lot to do with it. They were on a tight budget back then, which is the other reason they used the Reliant model. In fact, I also recall a story about them removing the rollbar because they couldn't get the lighting circuitry to function in time for filming (as opposed to its successful use for the Brattain/Brittain), so they took it off, ostensibly inventing a whole new sub-class (probably the first) of the Miranda family.

It's possible. I know they did that with the USS Trial (the Miranda that's docked at DS9 at the end of "Way of the Warrior" and stock shots in subsequent episodes).

Maybe there's just some late 21st or 22nd century historical figure that Starfleet honored with a namesake ship.

It has been a couple of weeks since I got a model, so I headed over to one of the stores in town that sells them (the far one). Of the ships I don't already have, it came down to a couple of Wolf 359 ships, which I didn't really care for, and the Voth city ship. I'm not particularly excited by most of the "alien ship of the week" ones from Voyager, but it is what it is. I haven't seen "Distant Origin" in years, but it looks okay, based on the pictures. Actually, with its flat bottom, it looks like something you could stick on a costume as some sort of exotic badge or medal.

Still waiting for the stores to get the prototype Voyager, or for Eaglemoss to make some more of the ships on my wish list. Oh, why, oh why must Canada be so far behind the US and UK? I mean, we're practically a mix of the two countries!
