Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I got the USS Kobayashi Maru ECS-1022 today. It seems the model is based upon Ryan Church's 3D concept of the ship (which has the flat aft hull and pontoons) before it was sent to ILM for building and texturing. The texturing on the model would appear to be someone's "best guess". There are no pictures of the ILM model in the magazine outside of movie screencaps.

So it doesn’t include the image from Star Trek Encyclopedia?
Nope. I don't think they're aware of it, or the registry would be painted correctly.

Here's the concept art the model seems to be based upon:

I wish I had the money (and space!) for all these beautiful things. :(

As I opened the box holding issues 100/101 I realized I'd dropped over 2 large this stuff. That was probably 6 months ago and before I started collecting special editions, shop exclusives, and the Discovery lines.

I've got them sitting on two Vittsjo shelves from Ikea. The big $80 ones and I'll probably need more the finish the set. You're not fitting that in a studio apartment.

Ah. That explains why it doesn't match the movie model or Eaves's new paintings SotL. It seemed odd that EM would be so off when they're usually (mostly) so scrupulous.

They do have some weird misses - the E-A being one of the most egregious. But yes, on the whole, they are generally pretty good in the QC department.
I thought it was the seen in the JJVerse movies?
It was - the first 2009 movie only, though.

Interestingly, the transport shuttle (military shuttle) shows weathering. I remember Ben saying years ago they can’t do weathering, which is why all the ships always look pristine. And it was only with the USS Franklin NX-326 where they had to cross that bridge.

Apparently, that has changed.
What do people think here of weathering? It's a nice touch but I always prefer the pristine look to ships as if they had just come out of space dock.

With shields and deflectors, stellar dust should never even touch Star Trek ships, and neither warp not impulse should leave exhaust residue, so ships should remain pristine.

And since most of them are not designed to function in a gravity well (Abramsverse conceits notwithstanding), there should be no oxidization on the hull either. The only exceptions would be the Klingon BOP, Voyager and various shuttles - ships canonically shown to be able to land on a planet.
