Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

^ Congratulations on your lucky strike with the Kelvin. If you Aussies and Canuckleheads had stayed in the UK or joined the US you wouldn't have that trouble now.

Asbo, now that you mention it, a larger E-C would make holding out for a Diamond Select version superfluous... :bolian:

The JJverse special issue Enterprise is about the same size as these large versions.
That was never going to be an Enterprise model that I was keen to buy. However, when I was subscribed to Eaglemoss I ended up receiving and paying for it because I forgot to explicitly tell them that I didn't want the model. I kept it but it looks just as bizarre and demented to me as a model as it looked in the movie. Very soon after, I cancelled my subscription as I realised that I don't have infinite shelf space and I was interested in acquiring only a small fraction of the models. Someday I might sell the unwanted models that are sitting in a drawer but I'm not in any hurry.

Actually, now you mention it, I prefer the design of the E-C to the E-D.

I also forked out for the special edition refit NX-01 SS Enterprise with the secondary hull. I never disliked the ship; only 50% of the series.

^ Selling an unwanted ship is a good idea. Not everyone likes each ship. That way, you can get your monnies back, and another one gets their chance at having the Kelvinprise.

Did anyone here get the 'Designing Starships' book from eaglemoss? If so what did you think?

Yep! Very well done, IMO. Rehashes some things that appeared in the individual magazines, of course (there's only so many times you can write about the same subject matter), but the interviews, conceptual designs and photos of the filming miniatures make it worth it. I figure it was more of a pilot project than anything, testing the waters for such written material in the future. This one was the Enterprises - an easy win.

My prediction: Volume 2 may likely be alien ships of the galaxy (Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Dominion, Borg, etc.) Then after that, maybe another general Federation book for Volume 3, like maybe the full history of starship design from Cochrane's Warpship all the way to Braxton's Timeship Aeon.

IMO, and for what it's worth, the first one was definitely good enough to warrant at least one or two more. I could also see a binder-box to put them all in when the series is complete. :)

It's such a faff selling stuff on eBay and posting it. I'm much more likely to take the items down to my local charity shop.

Thanks!
Does it include everything that was in the magazines about each ship?

I just ordered the Shuttle set. The ridiculously overpriced Shuttle set. The ridiculously overpriced Shuttle set I promised myself I would never get......
:brickwall:

Curse them. Curse them and their addictive little models to Hades.

There is a minor sale on at the Eaglemoss shop at least, they were at 10% off, and I got another 5% for signing up the newsletter. So slight justification, but still...
They were £75, so now I'm paying £64.12

So basically £16 each. You know if they were actual normal sized models akin to all the others I could happily live with that, just a bit more than a regualr £11 issue. But I still don't really get why they made them mini size.

Thanks!

There are some similarities, but they are a bit different. It's definitely not like they took the individual ship magazines that came with the models and bound them together in a hardcover. Some content and photos are similar, but the ship designs contain more expanded information and additional photos of the studio miniatures. I don't consider it a redundant waste of money at all.

On Facebook Eaglemoss said that the Type-15 has the wrong registry for those who preordered, and that a replacement will be sent.

Do we know the in/correct registry? I only see "02" on each photo. And I hope I preordered early enough to get it and the replacement.

They still have one set of those in my local Forbidden Planet, for £120.

And the third finally brings us Type-11 and the Argo.
I don't recall that been confirmed anywhere. Or do you mean that's just what you'd like to see?

I'd like both of those (the Argo shuttle I assume you mean, rather than the buggy thing.) The Type 11 is the Ent-E one from Inusrrection isn't it.
I would also like to see the Galileo from The Final Frontier. Then there's either the original Voyager shuttles or the original Defiant ones. Both aren't exactly things of absolute beauty but could be ok.

"Come on, you big bozo, get in the shuttle!"

^ My source is the Collection's page on Memory Alpha. Aye, I didn't refer to the buggy - a cool inclusion in the film but not a must-have for me. Type-11 is from INS.

And I agree in hoping to see the Type-8 from VOY - plus the SC-4 with active armor.

My shuttle set arrived this morning, not bad to say I only ordered it on Friday morning.

I was still half asleep when the postman and I had to sign for it actually, and when I opened it I forgot for a second they were smaller models. I thought something had gone wrong for a split second  man they are tiny. The TOS & TNG ones aren't too bad, but the Defiant & Voyager shuttles are a bit of a joke, not much bigger than a micro machine would be.
I mean they're nicely done n all, they'd just be a million times better were they the size of the regular issues, which as I said before now have plenty of shuttles in the collection anyway.

Oh well, £65 well spent... :D
