Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Trekyards just released a much longer interview with Ben. Very intriguing:

That's awesome!

Edit: Listened to it. Great to hear about the B'rel wing variant. I have the Hotwheels version with moveable wings, but the Eaglemoss version is more detailed. I like to think that all these products complement each other.

I'm looking forward to the Phase II Enterprise. The Connie is an iconic vessel, despite or especially because it's recognisable in each variation, including refute. Having another take at it is certainly welcome.

Surprised to hear though that Canada is not one of the core countries.

That, I can attest to. I don't think Canada started getting them until late 2014 at the very earliest.

I picked up the BoP at a local store, just before it closed down, for completion's sake, but I wish they'd had the wings another way. Besides the fact that all those DS9 episodes indoctrinated me to prefer the wings swept under, in a attack mode, the Eaglemoss model, while wonderfully detailed, doesn't look quite right with the wings completely flat. If you're gonna do flight mode, you should have them swept up a bit, as we often saw on TNG.

Edited to add:

I got a BoP from Furuta on Ebay so that I'd have something similar. It's not quite the scale of the Eaglemoss one, but it's close.

Aye, the versions from Eaglemoss, Furuta and Hotwheels are surprisingly close in scale. It's probably the most practical size for a model.

It occurred to me, given that we're going to receive the Phase II Enterprise, it's likely that we get the USS Discovery from the DSC trailer, too - in addition to whatever it's final iteration might be. The design has grown on me. ("So does fungus", as Seven of Nine would say).

Just received the 11" NCC-1701. It's nice but I'm sort of thinking I probably payed over the odds for it. I already have a 20" 1:600 scale Revell USS Enterprise that I modded with Arduino Mini-powered lights, so unless I decide I need a Polar Lights 32" 1:350 scale USS Enterprise for stupid money, I think I'm done.

The KBoP originally had three wing modes- down for attack, flat for flight and raised for landing. Eventually the mechanism which moved the wings broke and left them in down position- the only way to fix it was to rip open the sealed miniature and nobody wanted to do that. Personally I think the raised position looks best but the last time we saw it was on TNG before they got struck.

The saucer on mine doesn't exhibit that defect but perhaps I'm lucky (or either uncritical or unobservant). It's a perfectly decent model but a bit expensive for what it is. I think I'll forgo the 1701-D. Apparently, it's $75 in the US, which seems very steep.

I got the Enterprise J today, I didn't think the saucers proportions were that squashed up on the model (just the perspective of the ship in the original calendar image), not as rounded, but the nacelles are intact and at the right angle.

It has a sort of 50's era vibe to it, getting to see it from these different angles properly now.

So something like £150 or $225 to obtain all three then. I'm a big fan of the original NCC-1701 so it's worth it for me -- the D and especially the E not so much. I'll see how flush with cash I'm feeling in a few months time when I guess they'll become available. It's also more stuff to dust -- I'm not sure how dust gets inside supposedly sealed cabinets but it does.

I'll definitely get the E, seen as the regular model is pretty small due to it's long length, so this should have a fair bit more nice extra detail. And I'll get the D too, just not that fussed about the original in large size personally.

It's a slippery slope -- if one gets the original, the D and the E, one starts yearning for large versions of the movie, A, B, and C as well. I could envisage a large movie or A variant being made available but not a B or C. Let's not mention the JJA-verse versions.

So I just recently noticed on the Eaglemoss Shop that the new Enterprise-A dedication plaque is available as a "Special Edition" item like the Jellyfish. Does that mean that it's going to be a subscriber special that we're going to get automatically later on if we've opted-in to the specials?

Inquiring minds want to know... :)

So being from Aus we no longer seem to be getting the specials (been well over a year since the last one) I've decided to sauce them through 3rd parties which has been expensive. Found the jellyfish and the NX refit no problem but was having a hard time finding the Kelvin for under $100au then suddenly today found one for $50au including delivery! Needless to say my wallet is a bit lighter now.
