Star Trek: Starfleet Scouts in development

What is ridiculous about bringing Ron Moore back? Doctor Who recently brought back Russel T Davies. The guy has a impressive career post Trek. They would be lucky to have someone as talented as him making new Trek. The fact that he has a past with it and is a fan would just be icing on the cake.
Or it could spoil the cake. RTD is getting mixed reviews. RDM might get the same.

That is possible of course. You never know but at least he has a record of success so I would love to see them give him a chance to make a Trek show in the way he would want to do it. Something tells me, despite being a big Trek fan he would be even willing to finally break away from the Prime timeline and create a new line of continuity. He strikes me as someone who loves the old stuff but also would love to try new stuff as well and mix it together.

IDK - the original series made me a big fan at age 6, so yeah, I don't get what they feel the need to 'aim' for anything.

I was around 10 when TAS premiered on NBC Saturday mornings and compared to live action TOS, I found both its music and a lot of the stories wanting even at that age.

SNW should appeal to kids no problem.
My earliest memories are of Scorpion part 2 and A Time to Stand which aired over here when I was 6 years old. A kiddy-friendly Star Trek option would not have appealed to me.

i started watching Trek when TNG was still on the air, in the early 90s. I was 11.

I don't know why they have to make kid specific shows. It was doing a good enough job converting kids already. I love Prodigy but its mainly us 40 plus year olds watching it, not kids

Nothing wrong with making stuff for kids but it is a mistake to assume kids only want to see stuff with kid characters. When I was a kid I was into GiJoe,Scooby Doo,Transformers, Go-Bots,Speed Raceer and later stuff like The A-Team,Alf,Punky Brewster and Dukes of Hazard. Kids like stuff with grown-ups or teenagers and of course aliens and robots in them. I think the only kid character I liked was Punky Brewster and that is because I had a crush on her.

Probably because they see competitors doing it: see Camp Cretaceous for Jurassic Park franchise.

Executives do not have a fan mindset. Fans usually will try something once and keep going. Executives don't assume that's going to be the average viewers experience. They want to create a draw that appeals to multiple demographics, not just hope 40+ year olds or parents are showing their kids older franchises.

:barf:

Why bring in someone new with a vision when we can just keep regurgitating the past?!

Ron Moore has been and still is a good writer and he's done a lot of good work for Star Trek. I think Doctor Who is a cautionary tale, showing how even writers like Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat can run out of ideas, but they're still able to come out with a Wild Blue Yonder or Boom every now and then.

I wouldn't necessarily want the guy to run a Trek show (even if that would be a new thing, he's never done that before), but I think he's got some great one-off Trek stories left in him.
