Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

We see him still serving aboard USS Enterprise–D in 2402.
Well, no. The only scene set aboard the Enterprise D in 2402 was the end when Picard and Geordi return it to the museum. I grant you he was still wearing a Starfleet uniform in the poker scene, but that was probably a reflection of the fact that "One Year Later" was something added in post production and not the intent when the episode was written or filmed.

I don't think you get promotions based on time served.

In regular militaries yes you do until a certain level provided your record is free of any negative remarks and your evaluations are standard good.

With officers it's the same but with a little more emphasis on evaluations, especially at higher levels. Once it's up for flag level officers ( Generals, Admirals and such) it also often enough gets political as the government will also be involved to approve the promotion.

Star Trek: CW

Not looking forward to it, feel it isn't aimed at me, and that's OK.

As i said in my initial post i hope it's about a group of cadets who are in the middle of an effort by legendary Starfleet to come back from the ashes and rebuild. It can be a great show by showing us on what Starfleet and the Federation is built upon, how new recruits navigate these demands and learn how to uphold the ideals on which Starfleet and the Federation are founded even when it's hard.

It's what the previous shows so often pushed for - if you wear that uniform you have dedicated yourself to a certain way of life and if you have to make the hard call to lay down your life in extreme cases to follow these ideals and you can't then you should not wear it. I hope the show is about that at its core, shaping future Starfleet officers to follow in gigantic footsteps.

I am expecting personal and maybe even relationship drama if it runs long enough but if it doesn't take center stage i'd be ok with that though.

I am glad they cleared the elephant in the room from Discovery and will (possibly) show us where Klingons in the Federation stand in the fourth millennium.

But the visual discontinuity for Discovery spin-off is insaner than Discovery to the rest of the franchise itself. It just so odd, it decided to set itself so apart, and then all of its literal spinoffs are like, nah, we'll do it like the rest of the franchise did.

Can't way for this question to be raised in a future Starbase 80 series that crosses over with Discovery footage, and then a future prequel series to explain what Kazon augment virus did this.

If you think about the alternate timeline in Tapestry. Picard was like a 64/65 year old Lt. JG
