I'd have to watch "Who Mourns for Adonais" again, but other than what "Apollo" claimed, do we even have evidence the other Greek gods even really existed? I'd question how much of Apollo's claims to being the mythological being are even valid at all.

I guess there's Olly as evidence others of Apollo's people existing, but their actual role in Earth's history is pretty vague and I don't think you can assume the canonicity of say, The Iliad.

There is limited information, and even the TOS crew comment that these visitors might be the basis for those myths and stories, not completely accurate to what these aliens would be like, with some exaggeration perhaps coming in to the stories.

Kirk and company do not seem too fussed by Apollo's claims. They're willing to accept it on it's face, and note much of the cultural touchstones from Greek history as being a basis for future development. While I'm sure their interaction in human history was probably limited, I don't see a reason to doubt Apollo's claims, even if they're not 100% accurate.

Either way, she just ends up murdering a bunch of people without trial after going through how unfair the system was before.

I'm just trying to imagine it: Terminator, Matrix, Bond, Mission Impossible, SW, Trek, all with extended legal debates, full proper courtroom proceedings, before the bad guys finally get shot sentenced to something

The version in SFA does not sound like a dirge lol. It’s not depressing either.

Sounds up beat to me, not as much as the original sure, it’s just slower. But I love it, fits the scene perfectly.

I actually prefer the epic strings and choir to the guitar. It's incredibly moving

I mean I liked episode 2 more than this one. lol

But also either the Federation is the organization of morals and whatnot or they're just as bloodthirsty Klingon-Dominion hybrids who shoot first and ask questions later. They can't really seem to choose what they are.

Like you have Kirk feeling bad for killing the Borg-Humans in SNW despite the fact that they murdered countless people in order to maintain their colony ship... like if anyone deserved to die, they did. It just seems to depend entirely on the writing beat they want to end on, which is something they're totally in control of.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily give much weight to Kirk's and the like's fussing, but in the context of Apollo = bad, so Athena = bad, making assumptions on the character of a person based on that is foolish, especially since the source is extremely biased and unstable, and unless I am just not remembering, the episode gave no indication that any particular depiction (why I mentioned The Iliad) is accurate so the particulars of Athena's character are pretty unknown.

To be pedantic, Kirk and them taking Apollo at his word is really bad for a bunch of scientists. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If I met a guy who walked on water and could heal the blind, I don't think that gives me reason to accept it if he claims to be Jesus Christ.

The bad guys shot first, and actively went out of their way to avoid killing anyone even though it would have been extroidinarly simple of them to do so.

Really liked these first two episodes! I think this show has so much potential..!

What I really liked about it is that it's a unique world, it feels different from any other ST series that came before.

Some random things I noticed or loved in the first two episodes:

- The callbacks to PRO, that was awesome..! After the LDS characters in SNW and now this, I think it's really fantastic how they have connected all the Nu-Trek series in one way or the other..!
- The presentation is not in 2:40 aspect ratio as it had been for live action since DSC S2, but in standard 16:9 like ENT.. wonder why that choice was made...
- The main title sequence (as first seen in 'Beta Test') was lovely, but I do think Jeff Russo's theme is not distinctive enough... I cannot image anyone being able to hum this theme, and I think that's a missed opportunity... I love Russo's scores, I think he's incredible, I just think that he should have written a very recognizable, catchy melody for the main title sequence...
- I hope Caleb Mir will soon become a bit less juvenile and rebellious... I love his backstory, and I actually felt he was wising up and becoming more likable near the end of 'Kids These Days', only for him to regress in the second episode. Things he did with the zipper for instance, I thought that was rather annoying and childish, and didn't generate sympathy for the character... But I have faith that he will ultimately grow into a very likeable character, he just is not there yet for me.
- Bob Picardo was awesome, as always. Loved every scene he was in.
- Gina Yashere and Kerrice Brooks were highlights for me!
- The scene where the window cleaning DOT was laughing at Caleb was one of the funniest things I ever saw in ST..!
- The Athena is one of the most beautiful starships I've ever seen (ST or otherwise) and the sequence where they approach San Fransisco with the song 'San Fransisco' heard) was just incredible.

Just some random thoughts. Cannot wait for next week..!
