Does anyone think they will find a way to save Vulcan in the second film? Either by going back in time and stopping Nero Shouldn't Spock Prime know the formula for going back in time? Or the more likely route they may take is that they find some sort of planet creating machine that creates a new Vulcan this would actually be quite interesting as most of the siting of Vulcan show a barren wasteland with a small population. Which would fit well with the creation of a new planet.
Don't mistake that I think they are planing this now but if they decide that Trek fans are unhappy with the destruction perhaps they will find some way to bring Vulcan back into existence. Personally I think at the very least the next film will have something to do with Vulcan or a Vulcan Colony I don't think they would dare destroying such a iconic part of Star Trek lore without addressing it with a story or something. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this.
I think this was boldest move by Abrams in making his timeline different from the timeline that we know. Think of all the things that change now! When Sarek becomes ill his wife will never be there with him-- who knows if Jean Luc-Picard will eve be born in this timeline? The future has been altered beyond repair. THIS is what makes THIS series new, fresh and unique. It was a balsy move that was extremely well executed (and I think, well received!)
That wasn't Spock's mom. In the TNG era Sarak married another human woman. Long after Amanda had died of old age. But who knows if that will happen in the new timeline, anyway.
The Vulcan population should be enough to continue the race on a new planet. By the 24th century the popuation will be in the millons.
