Star Trek Sequel - Vulcan? [SPOILERS]

Overbound

Ensign
Red Shirt
Does anyone think they will find a way to save Vulcan in the second film? Either by going back in time and stopping Nero Shouldn't Spock Prime know the formula for going back in time? Or the more likely route they may take is that they find some sort of planet creating machine that creates a new Vulcan this would actually be quite interesting as most of the siting of Vulcan show a barren wasteland with a small population. Which would fit well with the creation of a new planet.

Don't mistake that I think they are planing this now but if they decide that Trek fans are unhappy with the destruction perhaps they will find some way to bring Vulcan back into existence. Personally I think at the very least the next film will have something to do with Vulcan or a Vulcan Colony I don't think they would dare destroying such a iconic part of Star Trek lore without addressing it with a story or something. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

It was ballsy to destroy Vulcan and not reboot it by the end of the movie. It will be ballsier to keep Vulcan destroyed. I commend the writers for that.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

God I hope not. That would probably be the most suckitudinous (not my word) cop out of Trek history. I have full faith in my good man J.J., so if he's still in it, I doubt they'll do that. I hope they don't.

I agree. There is unlimited story potential in a reboot. Leave Vulcan alone and move on.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

Keep it destroyed...
But a great possible villain could be a Vulcan Captain (say of the Intrepid) obsessed with finding a way to undo what was done.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

As much as it sucks that Vulcan was destroyed, I think using the reset button is a terrible, terrible idea.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

Keep it destroyed for now.

Right now it would be too much fun to take pre-existing characters, planets or situations worked into a brand new story, and see how they unfold differently or the same in this new time line. All background fluff of course.

Like Pike still ending up in the wheelchair.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

I know that it should remain destroyed, but I really hate that Vulcan is no more. They are one of the beloved races and now they are on the edge of extinction. Only 10,000 left.

Some of those 10,000 are going to be very very angry at the Romulans. If they are as stupid as Nero, one of them might be dumb enough to be angry at the Feds and earth.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

I think the next movie should focus on the Klingons. Make New Vulcan a B or a C plot, but don't make it front and centre.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

To be honest the destruction of Vulcan and Spock's mother didn't hit me until Spock met Spock. I had written it of as a sure fire reset, and I like it. Sure it has to be mentioned in the future but the Star Trek universe is about exploring and so forth.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

Vulcan is dead, let it stay dead. We bitch when they do use the reset button, now we're begging for them to press it again.

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

You know, they killed off the main Vulcan at the end of one of the films... and then had to bring him back. ;)

I think this is a possibility.

Anyone else concerned with what happened to all those Katras?

Re: Star Trek Sequel Vulcan is Saved?

Yeah, we bitched when they killed Spock before. We bitched when they killed Data and we bitched when they killed Trip.

I'm bitching because 6 billion precious Vulcans died. I hate it.

I understand it, but I hate it.

ETA: Spock was resurrected. Data was resurrected in countdown.
