That gives you an idea what a great ranking it has.

Have we heard yet from any of the other members of the Trek family who have seen it? Frakes? Koenig? Takei?

157-8!!!!

It must rank as the outstanding prequel of all time.
Star Trek is the first great blockbuster of the year and is undoubtedly a bona fide masterpiece in the family genre.
You do get a sense, despite all the other attempts to re-do Star Trek, that this lot boldly go where no man has gone before, and that Abrams has reinvented the series without murdering everything that has gone before.

Abrams has achieved what previous Star Trek directors and George Lucas’s prequels failed to create — a gripping, action-packed, humorous slice of escapism.

Star Trek is the most enjoyable, spectacular, smart and yet brilliantly simple summer movie for an absolute age.

It's also 8.3 on imdb, which is an outstanding score. Just to illustrate how good that is: If that holds, it would be one of the top5 english-language movies of the year easily and probably in the top25 of the decade!

Critics Consensus: Star Trek Is The Best-Reviewed Wide Release of 2009!

It boldly goes where no Trek has gone before. This new Trek will live long and prosper. No matter what clichés they may use, there's no getting around the critics' main point: JJ Abrams' Star Trek is stirring mainstream entertainment, and breathes new life into the moribund franchise. It's an origin story, one that tells the tale of how Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) became, well, Kirk and Spock. The pundits say Abrams' action-packed, visually remarkable take on such venerable material will reward both fans and newcomers alike, and sets an impressive new course for one of pop culture's most enduring series. Not only is Star Trek Certified Fresh, it's the best-reviewed wide release of the year. To top it all off, it's the best-reviewed entry in the Star Trek franchise to date.

:bolian: :techman:   :)

Now after seeing the movie, I am surprised so many critics liked it... I really enjoyed it, but it just didn't seem like a critic friendly film...

Roeper's comment is the most accurate by far - Highly illogical but entertaining as hell.

Kind of like going back in time to find humpback whales in the hope that they can be brought into the future to communicate with a space probe. ;)

I think this is one time when the critics (that weren't Trek lovers mind you) did a comparison with other Trek movies more than "this thing is as good as Citizen Kane." A review on the revitalization of Star Trek. Same thing happened with Batman and Bond. Turning a franchise into something viable tickles critics fancies.

Even the reader ratings have gone up to 81% now that a lot of folks have actually seen it and are voting. They're starting to drown out the losers who were pre-voting their prejudices.
