Star Trek: Renegades

So now that it's no longer Star Trek...

... will it still be free?

Not that I'm opposed to paying for original sci-fi of course, I'm just wondering if these changes have changed your release plans at all...

Considering they raised the money with the Star Trek brand attached, I'd think so.

I haven't read every post so I don't know if this has been asked but couldn't the second episode have been finished under the Trek banner since it was already underway? Looks like that's what Star Trek Continues is doing.

The difference is - the Star Trek Continues episode was in Post (principal photography finished and well into Post.) I believe Renegades hadn't finished principal photography, and had a fair bit of it left to shoot.

I think this episode should still be free as promised by the Kickstarter, but after that its really up to them. In the long run this episode being free makes a good taster for a future pay series, even if future series may not have the guest cast this one does.

I agree, but until they confirm that we don't know. Obviously they have an obligation to the donors, but they have no such obligation to anyone else. Time will tell. :)

I suppose as long as the donors all get a free copy, the kickstarter issues becomes null and void.

Another interesting question about this story is not only is it a Star Trek film with the brand removed but it's still presumably fundamentally a sequel to the pilot? So we have a Star Trek movie with the sequel not being Star Trek, that's interesting!

The Pilot introduced the characters and situation, this follows it on, Koenig & Russ are there under different names etc.

Filing away the serial numbers has actually become one of the rather fun parts of this whole journey! Even though I want to look at The Requiem as it was meant to be - Koenigs swan song as that character; what 'Chakotay/Nog' etc have been doing since we last saw them, the return of 'Uhura'...I guess being made as it is makes the film different, an oddity if you like.

whilst there are Star Trek proper characters in the Renegades crew, when I first heard about the show, I thought it was going to be about the Renegades, and that new crew. The first episode did need to do some set up, but still had more Starfleet than I was expecting from it. I saw Renegades being about the crew, with the occasional appearance by Tuvok and Chekov, so in the end the show would have featured less and less Star Trek characters anyways. This move however forces that to happen ALOT quicker, and in not as subtle way.

I am aware the production disagrees with what I thought the show would be, with the inclusion of a new star fleet ship, and further Trek guest stars.

I'm watching Renegades for the 1st time now. I'm pleasantly surprised. The story is interesting, the makeup is good and it helps that Koenig, Russ and Picardo are there to provide needed acting ballast.

TBH this video is rather lacking, and the blurring of Trek IP is distracting, maybe for this reason it simply does not sell the project as it is now.

That having been said it looks like alot of hard work is going on, but im left wondering how much of it they will be able to use.

For all the fun of having Nichelle Nicholas say some cringe worthy lines at the end, would it have killed them to produce a video where Walter or Tim talk about the project, and all the footage / bos is of something they are going to be able to use.

This is harsh I know, and I know everyone knows the situation, but its a very poor pitch video.

lol at the blurring of the Vulcan ears and combadges!!

Only the first day's work is unusable as they filmed it as Star Trek, the scenes with Chekov, Uhura, Jake and Tuvok. I've said around facebook I hope they will be released as loose ends, being potentially the last sceens some of those actors will play their star Trek roles.

Wether they'll have to reshoot or reedit the scenes is another matter. The main problem would be Kovok's ears. I guess the combadges can be painted out?! Following the project online, it seems they had to change very little to 'de-Trek' it, and I reckon it will still feel somewhat Trekky. Koenig still plays the Admiral with a Russian accent and uniform, all the same actors are there and the set pieces are still Enterprise-D.

i liek that, thsi is going to be interesting

There is a cool teaser coming out, possibly tomorrow. Most of the first day's filming is usable actually. There is not much Star Trek related to fix at all. Combadges will be removed digitally.

I strongly suspect that anyone watching this, from new with no idea of the shows history will say "well alot of this seemed like it wanted to be Star Trek", the uniforms would not look totally out of place in TNG, should work well with the Enterprise D bridge set, which always seemed odd in the pilot, dont know if this makes it less or more odd now.
