Star Trek REALITY SHOW?

Okay, my WWF idea was shot down. But how about this idea..

STAR TREK
REALITY SHOW

(kind of like Survivor)

16 contestants, 8 men and 8 women. They go to this special 'studio' that is "STAR FLEET ACADEMY". They engage in physical AND mental challenges. And they vote each other off, or something like that..

The main host is a academy drill instructor. And the final episode will pit the two remaining contestants in a the big finale.KOYIASHI MARU (yeah, I butchered the spelling) But you get my drift.

What do you think? The should would not only be physical, but ALSO, have character study contests as well...

I think this might go over. It might be to late, but I'd give it a season. Especially if "Admiral Kirk" made an appearence on each final season episode...

What was that about serious posts that got your last thread closed in here? ;)

Oh, but I am serious. We are talking about the Future of Trek. And so why not tap into the arena that has made, whether you like it or not, American Idol and Survivor and Hells Kitchen and Dancing with the Stars and Deal or no Deal II watch two of them) bigger hits than the last three star trek shows (Ds9-Voy-Ent) combined..reality TV.

This Forum is about THE FUTURE OF TREK. And one would be foolish to think that it has to be another show about another crew on another ship. In fact, taking trek into a new genre is not a bad idea. And I think a TREK reality show, meanig a "Survivor" style show with real people competing in a TREK enivorment is an idea. You may not like it, fine. But I do.

By the way, I love HELLS KITCHEN and, yes, my family and I all get together on Tuesdays to watch American Idol..GO DAVID COOK!!!!

What if it was aimed at a scifi audience, and ONLY Trek fans could compete...star trek fans like you...and if you won, you could by your wife some new shoes, and a new SUV...You know she likes the idea now!!!

Amazing... I saw this thread three hours ago, and assumed it would be locked by the time I got home from work.

Could be amusing as a SciFi Channel afternoon show. But it wouldn't be good for the franchise or the Trekkies to be classified as "those weird people from that weirdo show."

We are STAR TREK fans, and we come in all shapes and sizes. A show like this could go a far way in DISCOUNTING the stereotype...You seem like many fans who see a negative, where I see a positive...I thought we were supposed to be a more enlightened crowd, us TREK Fans...

While Trekkies may come in all shapes and sizes, we all know that just like regular reality shows gravitate toward people who'll be crazy or bitchy or outrageous (e.g. William Hung and Sanjaya on previous years of American Idol), a Trek-based reality show would gravitate toward stereotypical weirdos. Who stands a better chance of having clips uploaded to YouTube and discussed on Entertainment Tonight, a fortysomething accountant from Trenton with a wife and 2.5 kids, or some freak-a-deak who shows up for jury duty dressed like Gowron?

It's a stereotype for a reason.

QFT. Reality shows mock their participants, and that's their main appeal. I can't imagine a Trek game show where people didn't jeer at the nerdliness of the contestants.

The biggest demographic for AMERICAN IDOL and HELLS KITCHEN...yep..WOMEN!!!! So go ahead and bash them, berate long time fans, but none of that will lead to a future for STAR TREK...IMO

:wtf: Aren't you taking the future of Trek a little too seriously? If they really wanted to draw more women in, that could be done more easily by introducing attractive male regulars (IMO, they're few and far between compared to the number of attractive women).

As a non-gay guy perhaps I'm not the best to comment on this, but I would say that almost all the Trek regular males are attractive guys. I mean even I would do Riker, Bashir, Paris, and Trip.

Okay, I guess we can discount Quark and Neelix.

This is a terrible idea. Absolutely awful.

The show would only have a chance at being successful if it were a low-budget freak show (hey, maybe Ron Jeremy is a Trek fan ) and that would just piss the trekkies off.

As far as I'm concerned, the best Star Trek reality series (and I find the premise dubious at best) would probably have to be Star Trek: The Apprentice, with Quark in the Donald Trump role!

Nope..I stick to my guns...a reality show like SURIVIOR with real people, not former stars of TREK..They would compete in physical and mental challenges..the final two, on the season finale, would compete something like the Koybiashi Muru..the winner is crowned and Shatner, or Picard, is there to congradulate them....

You all may not like it? And as I said before; that is a GOOD thing. I am not trying to appeal to the choir (us) I am trying to bring in new fans with old fans...this show would DEFINATELY do better than Enterprise in the ratings if on a major network..that much I am confident of
