'Star Trek: Picard' in the top 10 of original streaming programs

they're into it because these characters seem familiar in ways they didn't in season 1, there's genuine character growth from characters like Riker, Troi, Data, etc., and the nostalgic elements are central themes of the plot.
Ok, and?

I'm not saying it's just nostalgia. I am saying the majority is nostalgia and making people feel the warm fuzzy feelings of safety and familiarity. It's mac and cheese comfort food viewing and that's both ok, but also I'm not a fan of the cheese. And I'll say that.

I’d be lying if I said the nostalgia in some cases doesn’t work. While seeing Beverly, Geordi and Worf did nothing for me, the crew on their ship last week did make me smile. I also admit thought the fan service in episode 1 was a little much and I wish they’d kept Data dead, but I also accept that others want him back so there we are. I just don’t find the story here all that interesting. Nor do I think it makes a lot of sense.

They never submitted numbers for Discovery simply because they would be embarrassed to do so and it would harm the show. Clearly they are thrilled with S3 Picard or they would not have released them,

Citation missing.
More like Discovery ratings missing, yet we have Picard S3 proof.
If Discovery had amazing numbers like Picard in how many years DSC been on? They would have released them. There would be no reason to not release them unless they were embarrassed at the low numbers.

It wasn’t just Picard or Discovery. Nothing was reported by Paramount+ for streaming numbers. Nothing. So they were embarrassed about everything they produced? At the end of the day, they kept renewing these shows. The internal metrics were all that mattered for them otherwise they might have canceled Treks earlier. But you believe what you want.

Isn't Yellowstone a certified hit with God knows how many spin-offs at this point? I assume their numbers were also not reported until recently. but yet was still a huge hit.

I’ll be fair and say Yellowstone streams on Peacock. The spin-offs are on P+. Not sure if the main series had its numbers reported through Nielsen or not.

Ah, might be Canadian thing. I think it's only on Paramount+ up here after being on Prime for awhile. I'd have to ask my wife as I've never actually watched it. Lol

Trek fans are so divisive that even news of success somehow angers people.
You mean they adjusted the series to make up for the original choices that didn't work?

Kinda like season 3 of TNG after the complaints about the first 2 seasons? That's kinda what TV shows do after they figure out what characters worked and what didn't, and more importantly what the audience actually wants to watch.
Thank you. The entire point of programming is to make shows that a large number of people want to watch. If the show isn't drawing enough viewers, it either gets changed or canceled. Picard season one was so boring I stopped watching half way through. It was that bad. At least with TNG's episodic format I could look forward to something different the next week if I didnt like an episode. Picard's serialized format means you are stuck in with the same storyline for an entire season, for better or worse.

And for the life of me, I will never understand people who complain about fanservice. It's a good idea to throw something in for the most loyal fans because without them there is no franchise. How many times did we see fan service in TNG? Oh that's right, it started with the very first episode with Dr. McCoy, and then the second episode which was a rehash of an old TOS episode. Then we got Sarak, Spock and even Scotty standing in the middle of the original Enterprise Bridge on a holodeck. DS9 had Picard as an integral part of its first episode and who can forget the crew being inserted into the Trouble with Tribbles episode? Even Voyager had Quark in its first episode and an episode with Tuvok on Captain Sulu's bridge. Those moments are well remembered and helped drive viewers. Many of whom stuck around afterwards. So what some of you dismiss as fan service I call smart business.

It's a shame it isn't like YouTube where they tell you how many have watched it.
Oh god...... I could just imagine the fandom screaming at eacother over the viewing numbers. This episode got exactly 4,089,754 viewers. Which of course means it's better then this other episode that got 3,964,933 viewers.

Well, Picard is a perfect show? The answer is no, for sure. But it is a good and enjoyable show? The answer is yes, for sure. It´s actors and actresses have much more charisma than the ones from Disco (as an example), and the series has a razoable story telling, so, is expected the viewers to be more interested. Disco fans maybe won´t accept this, but it is a fact.
There´s a big distance in story telling between the Next Generation, STNW and Disco (The Crying Generation). But, of course, due to personal reasons, there are who likes Disco. C´est la vie!

I´m not that worryed what the numbers are. As long as Paramount/CBS gave us a enjoyable Star Trek show, I will be happy. I believe that Star Trek Legacy has a good chance to receive green light, and I hope this show makes justice to it´s main tittle.
