Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but its Terry Matalas talking with a whole bunch of folks, all critics of New Trek, like Critical Drink, Star Trek legend Robert Meyer Burrent ( of ST2 fame, with his puppies ), and Nerdotic, David Cullen, etc..., and its a blast, everybody is having fun, folks disagree on stuff, but come to a respectful understanding. Even of your not a fan of all these folks its worth skipping to the part where Terry shows up, alot of good answers and you see what a great giy he is.

You're confusing RMB with Nick Meyer who did TWOK and TUC.

I would rather shit my own bed than listen to anything those grifting hate-mongers have to say. Given their treatment of actors like Sonequa Martin Green and anyone else who doesn't fit their narrow, bigoted, vision for what star trek should be, i think its shitty behaviour on the part of Terry Matalas to give any of them the time of day.

I think the general idea is that Stewart didn’t want to wear it regularly. Since the start of the series, he’s worn the TNG uniform, the pre-Picard series uniform, a uniform at the Academy in “The Star Gazer” as well as the Confederation uniform in the following episode. The last only kinda counts.

Yup. they may be having a good time with Terry in the stream, but those youtube critics have not been respectful to others in the past. Terry has been asked about it on twitter and his response is basically it's not his job to police what other people say and he doesn't have time to monitor their feeds and that he disagrees with some of what they've said.

So, season 2 was rightly criticized for spinning its wheels a bit in the middle but is anyone else getting the same feeling from season 3?

Star Trek legend Robert Meyer Burrent
Where's that meme of Nathan Fillion from Castle doing that thing with his hands like he wants to correct someone?

Kind of. We're dragging the thing about Jack's visions and what they mean, they dragged the whole thing about "the portal weapon was just a distraction for the Real Weapon" a lot longer than they had to, and even last week when they revealed what the Real Weapon is, the reveal scene was padded AF.

I mean, every single episode is actually answering a bit more of the plot points of the season. The only place they're really stringing us along now with a mystery box is what's happening with Jack (I'm pretty certain we as viewers are not supposed to believe Bev's explanation).

He’s wearing the outfit and badge.

Chancellor is a title, not a position you need to be there for. Stewart is a chancellor for an institution in real life, but he doesn’t work there.

He stepped down as the actual chancellor of Huddersfield University in 2015 (it was a working role), but retains the title Chancellor Emeritus. It mentions that in the post you linked.

A family member of a former colleague of mine studied Drama there while he was actually lecturing, and it was supposedly well known on campus that students had been kicked out of his lectures, in the past, for using certain phrases... :D

A bit of a pity, because I think I'd have struggled to resist it. It may have just been one if those rumours that go around, but I think it was very strongly believed, to the degree that it probably was true, or was started by Stewart himself to discourage it.

I think the conversation I had about with said colleague must have been 2005, so he'd only actually been there a year at the time.

Not majorly. But a little bit, yes. This probably could have been an extremely tight 6-8 episode season. But it’s taking it’s time in a few places. However, I think if you cut too much out, you’d lose some of the nice character moments this season.

Starfleet Academy seems to have a superintendent, a commandant, and a chancellor.

"Chancellor" in season 2 seems mostly honorific, so the title is likely more similar to an honorary UK chancellor university head than say the Chancellor of UC Berkeley -- there just an alternate to a "university president" title (for UK people this would be the "vice-chancellor"). SFA wouldn't need to do fundraising, so that would change the nature of the role as well!
