Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I like Steve, and generally agree with him on Trek, though I'm not quite as harsh on Season 2.

That said, I do agree that ultimately Season 2 was worthless, insofar as absolutely nothing that took place within it will likely ever have any ramifications upon Trek again. The season was explicitly set up as about giving him a second chance at a relationship with Laris...and she's not going to be in a relationship with him to speak of in Season 3.

Ultimately nothing here matters really. Nothing matters for Picard. Nothing matters for all of the characters written off the show we will likely never see again. Probably nothing matters in regards to the relationship of Seven and Raffi. I am guessing that with the exception of maybe 2-3 scenes, you could probably go right from watching Season 1 to Season 3 and everything will make total sense.

This is in some ways a repeat of Season 1, where they gave Picard a synthetic body, and then they decided in Season 2 that nope, it didn't actually matter at all.

All of this would be forgivable if this was the 1990s and I was watching Voyager. But I don't want a "reset button" between seasons. I want the plots and character growth to follow logically on the foundations already shown.
I too doubt Season 3 will have much of anything to do with Season 2, if at all.

BUT...

As far as the characters who aren't coming back for Season 3, I think we might see them again in whatever series replaces Picard. I think they'll have some sort of live-action 25th Century show for those who don't think the 23rd Century is the end-all & be-all and aren't interested in the 32nd Century.

And if there is another 25th Century show, then we'll probably see The Jurati Borg Queen again at some point. If Raffi ends up in this hypothetical replacement series, then we'll probably see Elnor too at some point. We might even see Soji. And, for all we know, Wil Wheaton -- sorry I mean Wesley (how could I make a mistake like that? :p) -- might bring Kore into the future with him. Then there's Rios, who's just a time-travel episode away.

I do think a 25th century show (or two) has gotta be in the works. SH knows folks are clamoring for more adventures with legacy characters. It'll just depend on what form it takes, and Seven does seem to be a popular choice. I suspect we're, at the least, probably going to see more of her and Raffi.

I hope so.

My mind wandered while I was at work, and at one point I thought back to this...

Not Voyager. The TNG Movies. It took me a while to realize this, but I underestimated how much PIC is really just the TNG Movies done in modern season-length form. They can't have Picard do all the action-y stuff anymore because of Patrick Stewart's age...

... but one thing TNG Movies and seasons of PIC have in common is that every movie or season has a new story that has nothing to do with the previous installment. The only exception being following up with Data's death when going from Nemesis to PIC Season 1. But even there, they dropped the B-4 subplot as fast as they could. "He was defective." The End.

PIC Season 1 is like First Contact in that it picked up Picard's character arc from previous installments (BOBW in FC's case and NEM in PIC S1's case) and took it further. In neither case though, did Picard's character arc continue into Insurrection or Picard Season 2. TNG in general (whether it's TNG itself, the movies, or PIC) will flirt with serialization, and sometimes even have it, but it will only ever go so far.

Terry Matalas has said as well he has ideas for other series, but he hasn't been approached for more, yet.

And if he HAS been approached, he's not going to say anything (NDA and all that).

The Ladies carried the show (Jeri, Michelle, Orla, Isa, Alison, etc.). :techman: :adore:

ETA: For all of Picard's amazing Ladies :) :

Seven and Raffi on run from the cops is one of my favorite chase sequences ever! I had a lot of fun watching that. I think some people here are too jaded for their own good. Or they act like they're above enjoying those types of things.

Going back to Season 1, I also like seeing Dahj kick of the shit out of those Romulans in "Remembrance" and Seven kicking ass all throughout "Stardust City Rag".

It was as if they romped through Paramount's franchises (Star Trek meets Beverly Hills Cop -- I was waiting for Neutron Dance to kick in! )

And when they were through with Beverly Hills Cop, they made a side trip through Mission Impossible!

Seven kicking ass all throughout "Stardust City Rag".

Seven's still got it. :techman:

ETA: For all the millennials that might not know the Greatness that is the Pointer Sisters ;) :

Yep, the only modern streaming Trek that does so is LD and PRO and even the latter doesn't do it at times.

I was glad that in the Den of Geek interview with Terry Matalas they mention of Deep Space will be dealt with in season 3 besides Voyager too. As a ds9 fan I'm happy to hear him mention it. I'd be glad to see a Ds9 actor being in season 3 of Picard. Nana Visitor it would be cool see her in the series.:bolian:

I was more referring that the episode summary usually has the title of the episode with it. So...there is a title there.

Gotcha and apologies. Still, there's a pleasure in seeing the title onscreen. The shows that have never done it... it doesn't bother me. However for the likes of Star Trek and Doctor Who there's a precedent and putting the title onscreen at the start of an episode would require a minimal effort without having a detrimental effect on the whole.

Saying that, a lack of titles is not a deal breaker. It doesn't bother me especially. I do however prefer they were there, just because it's a convention on Star Trek that dates back to the very start of the franchise.

Fair enough. It's one of those little things I guess.
