Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

For those who say PIC is taking too long to get off the ground from a spacefaring standpoint: remember that one idea for the concept of ENT was to spend the first season on Earth as Enterprise NX-01 was being constructed and the crew wouldn't have actually gotten into deep space until the second season. It would have been an Earthbound Trek series for at least one season and that could have proven far, far more controversial and divisive than any other creative choices that Berman and Braga made.

Doesn't mean it would've been a good idea.

I'm picturing redshirts jumping out of starships.

Without parachutes. :shifty:

first time a read about it and tbh, I would have prefered that to what we got

So according to the latest Ready Room, they added the solar panels on the Golden Gate bridge in DSC/PIC to cover up the Cars in the shot

Even though Im not a fan of the spinoffs including The Next Generation.
I liked the sensibility and tonality of this..
all it needs is Kirk, Spock, Uhura ect, and it would be perfect.

Uh I think being able to see would be the least of their problems when they've just had a solar panel land on their car.
LoL ...
I believe that the 'In Universe' thinking was that the solar panels are supposed to be suspended above the roadway.

In my head canon the covering on the Golden Gate Bridge in TMP is the same surface, just with a different upper layer since that film takes place in 2273 and that's sixteen years after the most recent episode of DSC. It could be a different design adopted around TOS and one that allows tram tubes to travel underneath it.

Logical :techman:

It just occured to me that "Soji" sounds japanese...and I looked it up. It means "wording", "phraseology" or "diction"...https://www.nihongomaster.com/dictionary/entry/38018/soji

Could this be a hint?
My first association was Sochi. But yes, since Soji is seemingly able to understand and speak the languages of former Borg Drones, even those whose species are unknown, it is save to say the Japanese meaning is deliberate
In that case, does anybody have an idea what dahj might mean?

found this on reddit:
the meaning of Dahj (or rather the closest word to it, "Dahej") in Sanskrit is "dowry". A dowry is the ancient practice of transferring wealth from the bride's family to the groom's family during a wedding. This, of course, represents Dahj transferring the burden of her mystery onto Picard to start his adventure and discover the secrets that lie out there in the universe. It's no coincidence that Dahj's necklace looks like a pair of wedding rings that end up in Picard's hands. This was all part of Data's long-term plan for Dahj to find Picard and transfer her mystery into his hands.

And when Picard figures this out:

[JL] That cold blooded, mechanical son of a bitch, it's his revenge for all those arguments he lost.[JL]
