Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

This Picard convention news about the new Characters is really intriguing. It's nice that Jonathan Del Arco gave us some info about Hugh wanting to help Picard and find out how his storyarc unfolds.
Perhaps you could summarise the convention news for those who haven't managed to get hold of any footage or summaries.

D'Tan, from "Unification, Part II", who was the young Romulan interested in learning more about Vulcan would be interesting to have in Star Trek: Picard. Not only as someone who's a link to Spock but as a representative of another direction the Romulans could move in. He could represent a different faction of the Romulans with a different set of beliefs. Especially if not all the Romulans in PIC are on the same page anymore and have become more divided as a society or what's left of one.

I just watched the youtube video posted here in this thread and read the news on twitter . I was just excited about Picard news there was just a little more info about Jon Del arco saying his character Hugh was on the Borg cube shown in the Picard trailer and some of the reasons he decides to help Picard he felt he owes a debt to Picard for being rescued From Lore's trying to control the borg in the original TNG series 2 parter in season 6 and 7 of the tv series. There wasn't any major spoilers about the show just how excited that fans are going to get to see Picard return and the new characters are a part of Picard's journey in this series.

Have we ever seen a Romulan forcefield before in the shows/movies?
I've just seen people brining up the blue forcefield on the cube again, saying it should be green, but I'm not sure if Romulan forcefields are green. Even if they are, I really don't think it matters.

Plus I think the blue conveys rather clearly that it isn't a Borg forcefield

Since there's Federation Standard writing in there (English), it could be a Federation forcefield.

Something I noticed with Picard being promoted to Admiral in 2381: he would've left the Enterprise during what would've been the 18th Season of TNG. This is most likely a coincidence (more likely than not), but it might be a nod to the fact that the Second Age of Star Trek itself lasted for 18 years (1987-2005).

I don't think so. It's probably for some of the prisoners, who could be from the Federation.

Plus the guards all appear to be Romulan.

The forcefields we see in the trailer look to me to be the kind that keeps the atmosphere in, not the folks living there. (as in prison cells)
It's more like the ones used on the shuttlebay opening.

in the 2250s, there is a visible mesh that remains constantly glowing. before and after you only see it when it's hit by something.

Maybe we should also wonder why phaser effects look different from episode to episode and movies (sometimes they're continuous beams, sometimes they're pulsed beams, sometimes they look like photon torpedoes, sometimes they're invisible). Or maybe we shouldn't nitpick visual effects in world because they depend on who's doing them in real life.

some care about continuity, others don't. weapons have different settings, perhaps there are different forcefield settings as well? XD

That has to be a given no matter what century we're in.

Cause we've seen forcefields strong enough to both keep air in the shuttlebay, but let a shuttle pass through no problem and also keep a person from leaving a room. (the Brig)

And that goes all the way back to TOS & TMP.

Michael Chabon has inked an overall deal to develop shows with CBS. The first show being an adaptation of his book Kavalier & Clay.

What does this have to do with Picard? Well it mentions that he will be transitioning away from Picard sometime in 2020 to work on the Kavalier & Clay series. So most likely a new show runner for Picard season 2

Keeping with the new tradition. ;)

Doesn't say much for PICARD getting more than 2 Seasons I guess.

I don't suppose there are too many folks around who would turn down a chance to create their own material into a TV show.

He might actually still be show runner (at least for the writers room) for season 2 and then transition after.
