Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Spiner mentioned that he worked with Allison Pill, so maybe Data shares scenes with the cyberneticist she's playing, which would make him not just a dream character
Or maybe she developed a device that can project Data into Picard's mind, and the three of them share a scene as it is introduced?

They should have the first episode of Picard on CBS Proper. They'll get a ton of people who used to watch TNG and a few extra might subscribe to CBS All Access because of it.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard anything about that yet, to be honest. Fully anticipating a double episode premiere, either way.

I still think that shot of him in the very first trailer is a hologram.

Yeah I’m going with:
  • Painting on the vineyard is a dream
  • B4 is in the drawer and Dr Jurati finds a way to extract Data’s memories/personality/whatever
  • Picard and Data playing cards is on the holodeck, but it essentially is Data as much as him taking over a new physical body would be.
Doubt there will be any in depth explanation as to who or what B4 is, just some quick exposition about Data downloading his memories into another body shortly before he died.

Well Season 1 of DSC had the first part of it's premier on non-premium cable and Season 2 had it's premier on youtube for free (and on space.ca for Canadians), so I'm going to assume they'll do something similar with Picard (and DSC Season 3)

Which will, in turn, piss people off because they have to pay for another streaming service to watch the rest. I get the idea of doing that but it will piss people off. I knew of a few people who had that reaction with Discovery and simply decided not to bother at all, despite being Trekkies.

I ran into the same experience two years ago, when Discovery premiered: Friends of mine who were fans but didn't want to go through a pay wall. (Though, ironically some of them still bought the Blu-Ray sets and saw the series that way... )

But this time might be different. For most of those same friends of mine, Star Trek is TNG. Even the ones who won't bother with any Star Trek that isn't TNG are excited about Picard. So if they want to see what happens next bad enough, they might actually go ahead and subscribe.

Well, my point is my friends were already paying to watch CBS in some form and didn't want to then pay more for All Access (especially if they're already paying for other streaming services). Combine that with the fact that Star Trek had been up to that point been available on network television and not some off-shoot branch.

What if his memories and everything were taken out of b-4 and put into a holoprogram, so it really is still him.

I don't like the new Starfleet uniforms. (Wahhh!)

I'm sorry-- Picard looks like Captain Marvel
Those uniforms are only for flashbacks, the actual starfleet uniforms from during the show’s time period don’t look like that.

Though I doubt we’ll see very many in the show anyways, as starfleet isn’t the focus.

It's a comic uniform, and an admiral's specific variant. I'm highly skeptical that's a standard duty uniform.

Geordi, Raffi, and various background characters on Utopia Planitia and the Verity are wearing them

Also, Picard is the Captain Marvel of Star Trek universe, just uses speeches instead of his superpowers.

True, except just one Picard speech is more powerful than Thanos.

Maybe they deliberately made the in-between uniform a little gaudy to justify the back-to-basics approach of the current one.
